Snip:

During a routine patrol in Baghdad June 2, Army Pfc. Stephen Tschiderer, a medic, was shot in the chest by an enemy sniper, hiding in a van just 75 yards away. The incident was filmed by the insurgents.

Tschiderer, with E Troop, 101st “Saber” Cavalry Division, attached to 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, was knocked to the ground from the impact, but he popped right back up, took cover and located the enemy’s position.

After tracking down the now-wounded sniper with a team from B Company, 4th Battalion, 1st Iraqi Army Brigade, Tschiderer secured the terrorist with a pair of handcuffs and gave medical aid to the terrorist who’d tried to kill him just minutes before.

I found it humorous in an sad sort of way that the attack was filmed by insurgents. Tschiderer is no doubt thankful that the sniper didn't go for the head shot as [he should have been] trained to do. Or at least a lower gut shot.

The insurgents keep saying "Allah akbar" after the shot... but if Allah is so great, why can't he penetrate body armor? ;) Too bad there's no video of the counter-attack.

I was hoping. Watching the terrorist's van evaporate right under him would have capped off a nice day.

And what can you say about Pfc. Tschiderer? Just wow. "Oh darn, I'm shot. Well, get up, find cover, locate the bad guy. Back to work." Unbelievable.

Trained instinct. You fight like you're trained. He probably thought very little about it at the time. Probably not even even a "Oh darn." Later, and for several hours thereafter, he [proabably] couldn't stop shaking.

Edit to add: The army will expend a great deal of effort in getting this guy to go career.

Yeah, but still. Someone should make sure his local bar gets a copy of that video. He'll never buy a beer again.

No doubt. And I bet it hurt like hell. Yet he recovered in less than five seconds, covered his twelve, no targets, sought cover.

The guy was textbook.

Doesn't body armour cover the lower gut?

Amazing video! I would love to see the rest (it said it was edited). This guy is one bad-ass M.F! He wasn't even down for 2 seconds and he popped up like it was nothing. He'll feel it later I'm sure, or is armor that good these days?

First, a head shot is not that easy. Second, the soldier was wearing a helmet. Third, just because the article calls the shooter a "sniper," doesn't mean he was a graduate of the Taliban Sniper School For Allah's Jihad Against Infidels.

You go for center of mass. Not the head. Very few people are good enough to hit someone in the face from any distance. Hell, just look at the LAPD shootout with the bank robbers who were outfitted in body armor. How many bazillion shots and not one hit them in the face.

ETA: It also makes you wonder how many other attacks have been video-ed by the insurgents.

Yes he was. Beautiful.

Seems like Allah was watching out for the GI instead of the jihadist.

Probably because he got back up, did his job, arrested the jihadist, and gave him medical treatment. All of which signifies to me that this is the kind of person dieties should watch out for and give an extra boost to.

You gotta wonder. You're a committed muslim, dedicated to killing as many American soldiers as you can. You get one in your sights and shoot him into the dirt, and in orgiastic piety praise Allah over and over.

Then your enemy gets to his feet, and not only escapes but calls in return fire on your holy ass and you are injured. You try to crawl away, but don't get very far. You are surrounded by the enemy. This is it. This is the end. I'm coming Allah!

Then the infidel you just gunned down begins to minister to your wounds.

You gotta wonder what went through that muslim's head, and what he thinks today.
