A TAMbassador is someone who volunteers to answer questions from other attendees, but almost entirely from First TAMers. Mostly general questions such as "Where is the registration desk?", "Am I allowed to leave in the middle of a presentation?", and "Who is this James Randi fellow, anyway?", etc. (All of those are actual examples of questions I have gotten.) Any question you're not sure about, you can point them to someone who would know.

You indicate such services by wearing a large, orange button that says "I'm a TAMbassador. Ask me anything!" on you.

Anyone who has been to a previous TAM can be a TAMbassador. (First TAMers are not allowed to be one, this year. I'm sorry. But, you can be one in some future year, assuming they still have these things!)

I only have 4 buttons left that I can give out to people, right now. (Other than the one I will wear.) I suppose I can order more if necessary. (In previous years, it was bumlet5 who actually ordered them.) But, if you were a TAMbassador in previous years, it would be a good idea to bring your button for reuse.

You don't have to put your real name in the table, if you don't want to. But, I will need some way to deliver your button to you, at the event, so send a PM with either: Some bit of contact info, you'll be able to check on every now and then. Or, we can schedule some sort of meeting-place arrangement.

In the past some people were able to pick up their buttons from the Forum table. Is there going to be one, this year?

I will contact the JREF/TAM organizers to inform them about this, so perhaps we can make it something somewhat official, this time... just like last time... :rolleyes:

Direction questions might be a bit of a challenge this year because we are at a new venue. It might do for us to get a map of the place.

Ah, bumlet5 is back! Awesome!

I hear Kochanski has some left over buttons, as well. She will be able to deliver them to me. (She's not attending this year.) So, it seems unlikely that we would need to order more, at this point.
 
Well, I've been to a few TAMs although I missed the first two, so perhaps that makes me marginally qualified. I'm reasonably social, clean up well and will be sure to pack deodorant and toothpaste. So add me to the list if can. (Won't be the same without Kochanski but I'm sure we can soldier on without her.)

I was reminded of another role we TAMbassadors have, and that is to function as icebreakers: Help people meet new friends and such.

I've seen complaints that the crowd has become "too cliquey" for first TAMers, especially those who are not on these forums. So, we TAMbassadors can do a few small things to help rectify that.

Good memory! That is correct. The TAMbassadors were conceived in that er... "classic" thread.

It seems my brain is getting a little confabulated about CLM. I rediscovered his "rant" thread here: http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234418
Which predates TAM 2012 by a few months, but implies he's going to it.

But, this post, on another thread, seems to imply he wasn't physically there, afterall (only in "spirit"):

But, I do have some memory of him attending. At least I think I do. So, that was probably TAM 8.

Since TAM 2012 was the first year we had the TAMbassadors, it seems I can stand by my claim that there were no TAMbassadors to help him out, when he did attend. That is unfortunate, but at least we are here, NOW!
