Just wondering if anyone wants to take a helicopter to the grand canyon? Or if anyone wants to go by other means before TAM starts, I'm open to suggestions.

If you have any pointers, please share, this is a first for me.

I once did the helicopter ride. Its amazing, and well worth it.

I found it hard sometimes to be able to tell perspective: is that cliff 100 feet away? 1000? Is that a twig or a tree? A lot of fun, and beautiful scenery. Do it!

(I'm not going to TAM) but once took a small plane, 17 seater, over the Grand Canyon, and it was the best 2 hours of my life. Left the camera back at the hotel, of course ...... Absolutely! do it do it do it!

We should raise money to send VenomFangX there to see if he'd STILL think it could have been carved out by "The Flood" in 5 minutes,

I am planning on driving there on Monday after TAM; I have a rental car reservation already. Company would be welcome, of course.

And, yes, my first time visiting the Grand Canyon.

Hcmom and El_Spectre and I are going in that direction on the Wednesday prior, I think. We're spending the night somewhere in Arizona and checking out Barringer Crater while we're there, then heading in to Vegas on Thursday evening.

I think that's how it's working.

I've lived in Arizona for 10 years and haven't visited the Grand Canyon yet...Perhaps we can make it before or after TAM7. We'll be driving from Tucson to Vegas for TAM.

Well I'd only be available to do this before TAM. I did talk to a co-worker whose friend's have tried all sorts of helicopter rides. The good ones (that fly you around and land for pictures, etc. are $400.

Anyways, I'm getting my tickets soon...planning on flying in Tue or Wed. returning Sunday or Monday. PM me or post if you're interested in this.

Crater and staying in Flagstaff Wednesday, Canyon and Vegas on thursday. woohoo :)

For anyone who can carve out more than a fly-by visit, I offer a few photographic ideas.

Faux 4 Corners (skip), Grand Canyon, Glen Canyon River Float, Grand Canyon Below the Rim

Barringer Crater, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest, Canyon de Chelley, Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, Horse Shoe Bend, Grand Canyon, Sedona (skip)

If you hope to really see any of these places, you have to get lodging near them (i.e., not Las Vegas).

Otherwise you drive for half the day, stop at the destination, snap a pic or two, hop back into the car and drive back. There is great beauty in the desert southwest. Worthy of some trouble and planning.

I can add my own recommendation for the following: Monument Valley, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park.

Saw them all last year pre-TAM with a lovely Brazilian girl I found wandering in the desert. We stayed in Page, AZ for a few days, using it as our starting point for each day's adventures. HB & AV are each about 5 minutes from each other and Page. For Zion and Bryce, we stayed at a place about halfway between each.

Trying to get us all lost in the desert, are you? Though I guess during this season it wouldn't take long before you started seeing lovely Brazilian girls in every direction.

I'll be on the North Rim from July 5-9, driving from and to Vegas. The campsite allows 2 tents, so if anyone cares to come along please PM me.

Those just making plans now, if you're thinking of anything but a day trip you should check online reservations. This is peak season, and most accommodations are already fully booked.
