In addition to the regularly-scheduled live auction at TAM4, we're going to hold a traditional silent auction. Each donated item will be represented by a sheet on which you can write bids. The highest bidder for each item will have the item shipped to her or him by the donor. This means that you won't have to carry large items home with you. For example, do you really want to carry a half gallon of maple syrup?

So, in my forum capacity as Official Donation Pesterer, I'm asking for donations of interesting silent auction items. Please PM me and then I'll send you my email address. Then you can send me a description and photo of the item. These will end up on bid sheets, tastefully arranged on a finely decorated table at TAM4.

I have communicated with Jeff Wagg about this, and I think a silent auction would be a good idea.

I have three items that would be suitable for silent auction, and all of them are small. I was therefore planning to bring them to TAM4 and allow people to have a look at them.

Okay Brown, please send me descriptions and photos of the items. I am making a description sheet and a bid sheet for each item.

Exciting items received from CFLarsen and the Bad Astronomer today!

Paul, I have for auction an original signed copy of Princess Mary's Gift Book. This is the book that the girls got the Cottingley Fairy photos from. It is signed by Princess Mary and some other dead folks. Spooky!

I'll send you more detailed info in time.

Jeff! I totally want that book!!!!

OK, I'm looking for change in the couch!

I have some stuff too.

no don't! The puppy or supercorgi might eat it!

I could cough up about $100, but I know at TAM it will go for a TON of money. I don't even try to compete at these things. I donate!

Actually, I would love to just hold it, and look at it! Very very carefully!

Then send it on it's way to a good RICH home!.

I have a cool UFO item that I hope Kitten will remember to have Mr.Randi sign! (she had better!!!!)

And I'm going to try to get a photo together. I want to use my photo of the headless Xian, but that was donated to an AIDS benefit charity. But I think they will let me donate a print.

This is a bump and an announcement.

As Paul is really busy with the TAM 4 scholarship drive, he's stepping down from running the auction. First, big kudos to Paul for raising so much money for folks to come to TAM.

Secondly, I am taking over the silent auction. I'm also putting together the live auction, which features some really great stuff from some of our speakers and from Randi's personal collection (details to follow! You'll want to bid on this stuff, believe me). The silent auction will be going on throughout most of the meeting while the live auction is on Saturday. The live auction is reserved for the bigger items-- for example, one of Randi's signed classic posters.

Anyway, please PM or email me (Evelyn@randi.org) ASAP if you have anything you could potentially donate to either the live or the silent auction. Your donation must be related to science, magic, or skepticism somehow. We can be flexible about this, but the items should not be random. Also, you have to be able to bring or mail the items to TAM 4 (or, potentially, mail them to me beforehand if they're not too bulky).

Even small items are great for the silent auction. If you have something that you'd like Randi to sign for the auction, I can take care of that, too.

Please help out and donate!

Yeah! Do you have an old article about Randi, or something he could sign?

Something we could have framed and such?

Just email or PM Evelyn and see if it's a good idea!

I should think that Randi has a few truckloads of debris, after Katrina... :)

Bump. We need more items, folks... only a few weeks until TAM!

Doesn't have to be anything particularly fancy. Anything related to science, skepticism, or magic will do. If you're unsure about an item, just PM or email (Evelyn@randi.org) me.

Thanks!

Bump again. Clean out your attics and basements... never know what you might find to auction!

Hey how about a cool G6 Scarf? What about asking Jamy for something? A deck of cards or book signed?

Mind you the Hupsu photographs aren't good enough!
