I'm watching Montel and Sylvia is on making predictions for next year.

So far:

US will pull out of Iraq by mid-year
US will go to war with N. Korea in "the next couple of years"
Medical technology will help improve US economy.

2008 will bring drug benefits for the elderly
We are going to allow drugs to come in from Canada
A scandal with the FDA
someone close to GW Bush will have a big problem with liquor

Celebrity predictions:

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake will break up as will Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn. There will be problems with the Catherine Zeta-Jones/Michael Douglas marriage and Demi Moore will get pregnant with Ashton Kutcher's spawn.

She gave $50,000 for MS research. Of course, if she could pass the million dollar challenge, she'd have lots more to give to MS research.

The next 3, 4 or 5 years will bring about help for MS.
A vaccination for uterine, lung and colon cancer.

Britney Spears will have a baby, but her marriage won’t last
Robert Blake will get off.
Donald Trump’s marriage will last 2 years.
Elizabeth Taylor may not live through the year.

Gay marriage will be allowed state by state in the next year.
Medicinal marijuana will be allowed this year, towards the fall.
The divorce rate will level off.
The economy will turn down at the beginning of the year, then pick up again later.

Her financial advice-buy real estate.

Unemployment will be bad till fall.
We will stop frivolous lawsuits by fining lawyers who file them.

Michael Jackson will be convicted and go to jail.
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston will break up.

Laser surgery will be a big breakthrough. They will use a “light beam type of thing.” It will zap tumors and things.

TX, NC, FL will be hit by bad storms. We are in a polar tilt.

Yes, and they showed a couple of them. For example her 2004 prediction was "proteins like human growth hormone" would be helpful for AIDS. Then they talked about how some scientists have discovered proteins in saliva can treat AIDS. Another one was about diabetes--that there was going to be a cure for diabetes. Montel pointed out an insulin implant as proof of her prediction. She said Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake would be permanent "for a while"--she counted that as correct since they did apparently make it through the whole year. Those were the only ones I could remember.

Wow! Incredibly, the United States Federal Courts apply the following rule:
Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11:
(b) Representations to Court. By presenting to the court (whether by signing, filing, submitting, or later advocating) a pleading, written motion, or other paper, an attorney or unrepresented party is certifying that to the best of the person's knowledge, information, and belief, formed after an inquiry reasonable under the circumstances, --

**(1) it is not being presented for any improper purpose, such as to harass or to cause unnecessary delay or needless increase in the cost of litigation;

**(2) the claims, defenses, and other legal contentions therein are warranted by existing law or by a nonfrivolous argument for the extension, modification, or reversal of existing law or the establishment of new law;

**(3) the allegations and other factual contentions have evidentiary support or, if specifically so identified, are likely to have evidentiary support after a reasonable opportunity for further investigation or discovery; and

**(4) the denials of factual contentions are warranted on the evidence or, if specifically so identified, are reasonably based on a lack of information or belief.

(c) Sanctions. If, after notice and a reasonable opportunity to respond, the court determines that subdivision (b) has been violated, the court may, subject to the conditions stated below, impose an appropriate sanction upon the attorneys, law firms, or parties that have violated subdivision (b) or are responsible for the violation.

**(1) How Initiated.

****(A) By Motion.... If warranted, the court may award to the party prevailing on the motion the reasonable expenses and attorney's fees incurred in presenting or opposing the motion.

Absent exceptional circumstances, a law firm shall be held jointly responsible for violations committed by its partners, associates, and employees.

****(B) On Court's Initiative. On its own initiative, the court may enter an order describing the specific conduct that appears to violate subdivision (b) and directing an attorney, law firm, or party to show cause why it has not violated subdivision (b) with respect thereto.

**(2) Nature of Sanction; Limitations. A sanction imposed for violation of this rule shall be limited to what is sufficient to deter repetition of such conduct or comparable conduct by others similarly situated.

Subject to the limitations in subparagraphs (A) and (B), the sanction may consist of, or include, directives of a nonmonetary nature, an order to pay a penalty into court, or, if imposed on motion and warranted for effective deterrence, an order directing payment to the movant of some or all of the reasonable attorneys' fees and other expenses incurred as a direct result of the violation.

****(A) Monetary sanctions may not be awarded against a represented party for a violation of subdivision (b)(2).

****(B) Monetary sanctions may not be awarded on the court's initiative unless the court issues its order to show cause before a voluntary dismissal or settlement of the claims made by or against the party which is, or whose attorneys are, to be sanctioned.
...
Federal courts HAVE been fining lawyers for filing frivolous lawsuits under this rule for over 20 years. Many state courts have comparable rules and penalties. According to those who do not know what they are talking about (including Ms. Browne and President Bush), penalizing lawyers who file frivolous lawsuits has not stopped frivolous lawsuits from being filed.

I get so annoyed by her 'medical' predictions. They are not that much of a prediction for people who follow medical research or know someone in the industry.

Would she have donated the $50k if she had not been invited on the show?

Just read her predictions...this is the best the Psyhic world can do?

I mean, a group of people, at least one of which has read People Magazine all of 2004 and another who has read the NY Times for all of 2004 could probably have come up with much the same stuff.

Not that Sylvia has a staff or anything.....

some of the predictions she made for 2004 on Montel:

Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003 and Sylvia predicted he would rat out other countries who helped his evil empire in 2004.

-wrong

Browne predicted John Kerry would win the Democratic nomination for president, but President Bush would stay in office for another term.

-right, right

Osama Bin Laden is dead and that he would be found in 2004.

-wrong, wrong

She cautioned that North Korea is a threat and will begin to use some of its WMDs.

-wrong

Browne also said the pope would die in 2004 and a black pope would take over shortly after.

-still alive, still white...wrong, wrong

If anyone can find a complete list of her 2004 predictions I'd appreciate it. I Googled and could only find the above few.

-right, right

Now that you mention it, I remembered this clip from the show yesterday.

Montel asks who will be the Dem. nominee and she responds "John...John..." but it's Montel who fills in the last name of Kerry. But John Edwards was pretty strong in the beginning of the race. Who knows which John she really meant?

coast to coast 12/30/04

The world will end in 80 yrs. - that's a "safe" one

Well, something like that. There might like be some amt of animals running around....*glug glug glug*

It's all good tho cuz we'll either "go home" or go to another planet.

She said she's been running into a lot of ppl on their "last life."

Unfortunately, she was not able to come up with the 2008 presidential candidates. Hmmm. She thought about it some..and kinda thought out loud about the names being bandied about...and mentioned that she'd said in 1986 that Schwarzenegger would run for office someday and...what were we talking about again?

She did not "see" the tsunami(s?) but she did mention telling ppl to avoid trips to India. They were apparently grateful for her advice.

She didn't feel that there was going to be another major terrorist attack in this country. She said something about mebbe small stuff here n there & trailed off like she was nodding out from heroin.

Britney Spears will have a baby, but her marriage won’t last

Donald Trump’s marriage will last 2 years.

Elizabeth Taylor may not live through the year.

There will be problems with the Catherine Zeta-Jones/Michael Douglas marriage and Demi Moore will get pregnant with Ashton Kutcher's spawn.

Heard all of these.

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake will break up as will Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn.

Heard about Kurt & Goldie but there was no mention of Cam & Justin.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston will break up.

Definitely didn't hear this one! *waaah* (exaggerated reaction)

Gay marriage will be allowed state by state in the next year. Medicinal marijuana will be allowed this year, towards the fall.

I don't remember gay marriage being discussed but the medical marijuana was..

We will find out that Osama Bin Laden is dead.

She's still going with this concept (mostly cuz she's heard he's sick).

John Kerry will get the Democratic nomination for president.

She claimed she screwed this up cuz she was "emotionally involved." She said she told Montel (in private?) that she was afraid that Bush might win.

North Korea

I can't remember a specific thought she had in mind re NK - mostly she just went on & on about how crazy they are.

US will pull out of Iraq by mid-year

She fessed up to getting this wrong.

Medical technology

This was discussed but in such a totally incompetent way that I tuned her out. I believe she mentioned using saliva &/or hair for something & it wouldn't be that bad. I have to assume she meant that stem cell research isn't as bad as some ppl make it out to be? Anyway, I think she also mentioned some kinda cords & fluids. And mebbe she said something about colons.

She also says there will be a "big boom in cruise lines."

Duh.

One of many:

VOYAGE OF THE SOUL
with Sylvia Browne
A Psychic Experience at Sea

Southbound Alaska - 7 Days
August 17 – August 24, 2005

also..

Both Sylvia Browne & Sean David Morton got that whole Saddam thing wrong cuz the man was literally in the ground, afterall.

Totally understandable.

Just sayin'.

The MS prediction isn't that hard, I already had that feeling, but then I follow the science news.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-12/rson-scm112404.php

Duh.

:)

So In this vein, if youll pardon the pun I would like to make a prediction.

"On this Day December 31 2004 I predict in the next 5 years there will be a vaccine to protect against the effects of type 1 Diabetes."

Oh and I just read this story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4091399.stm

O.

Now what will I spend the $1M on. ;)

The tabloid headlines have been shrieking for months about the breakup of their marriage. That one is kind of a no-brainer.
And even if they hadn't, predicting that a Hollywood couple will break up is a foregone conclusion. If she could predict those that will stay together for the rest of their lives, I'd be much more impressed.

I also have to comment about how Sylvia likes to pawn herself off as this servent of God and "using her power for good", yet she behaves just like any other tabloid whore, more interested in the lives of the rich and famous than of the average or needy person.

BUMP!

Well, Sylvia got one right:

Britney Spears will have a baby, but her marriage won't last

That is about the only one in this thread that is dead on. Then again, who really thought it would last? The odds were not good.

Can anybody find one of our JREF members 2005 predicitions? I can find some from 2004, but they a little stale.
