Caller: "Sylvia, uh, 620 days on Larry's show, you agreed to take James Randi's one million dollar paranormal challenge and on a later show you even agreed to the specific terms of the test."

Sylvia: "Yeah, but let me tell you something: I've also found out that he won't put it into escrow. He won't put the money into escrow."

Caller: "Uh, you agreed to the terms of the test ..."

Sylvia (cutting him off): "No, I won't. Not until he puts the money into escrow. I mean why would I do it when the money can't be validated?"

Caller: "Uh, have you contacted James?"

Sylvia (eyes widening): "I don't wanna contact him. I already know about this Russian, uh, person who ha-had the lawyer contacted and said he won't put it into escrow."

Caller: "Ok, so you agreed 620 days ago to take a test ..."

Sylvia (cutting him off & raising voice): "Yeah, but why-I'm not gonna do that - I (stutter) I'm not gonna do that if he ca- doesn't have the money."

Caller: "Uhm, If I can arrange for James to come up with the money, would you take the test?"

Larry: "You said you would."

Sylvia (nodding her head, spoken more rapidly): "Yeah, yeah I will, but i-if he won't come up withit with the other girl, why would he come up with it (within?) me?"

Caller: "Ah, Ha ha."

Larry: "Well, if you come up with it, sir, she'll do it."

Sylvia (overlapping Larry): "Yeah."

Caller: "And will you arrange for that, Larry?"

Larry: "Sure."

Caller (pleased): "You got it."

Larry: "Be happy to do it."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the $1 million already was in escrow.

In his September 13th, 2002 commentary, Randi wrote:

[...]our million is already "in escrow" with Goldman Sachs[...]

What, then, is Browne talking about?

She's talking about a desparate attempt to avoid taking the challenge.

Who cares if it is in escrow? I thought she was already rich and didn't need the money?

Just imagine what would happen if she took the test, succeeded, and then Randi didn't give her the money? What would be the result? Simple. She would have humiliated Randi and he and JREF would be ruined. No credibility left at all. And she could be responsible for it. All she has to do is to succeed at doing what she claims she can do.

This isn't about money. If she thought she could pass, she would do it in a second. I have always said, the person who beats the challenge is going to have one of the biggest marketing ploys of all time. Can you imagine to be able to advertise yourself as the one who beat the James Randi challenge?

Moreover, if you are SB and you have had Randi on your a$$ for all these years, just imagine the crow he would eat. She would be an icon all over the world. If he doesn't pay up, it will just make his shame all the worse.

But apparently she can't take that chance.

So is someone going to get back to her???

So is someone going to check this with Randi to make sure? And then get back to her on air in front of Larry??? Can we ask "caller" to call again with the good news?

FYI: E-mail I sent Randi

FYI: Here is an e-mail I sent Randi last night:

Randi,

Hello. As I am sure you are aware, Sylvia Brown was on Larry King Live again this past Friday spouting her usual rubbish. But, a skeptic finally made it past the screeners and was able to question Sylvia about the JREF million dollar challenge. Here is the exchange that took place:

(TRANSCRIPT)

I captured this on video as well, so feel free to use it on the JREF website or any other way you think would be useful:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sarasota_Humanists/files/Sylvia_Brown_vs_skeptic_caller_on_LKL.wmv

(If you have problems with the link, just let me know and I can send it as an attachment or put on a different server.)

There is a thread going on the JREF forums regarding the Sylvia appearance on LKL. You can see it here:
http://host.randi.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19682&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

I think most of us are past the point of being able to ignore Sylvia Brown's constant deceptive and swindling ways. Whatever it takes, Sylvia and Larry need to be held to their word on this one. If necessary maybe we could organize some collaborating effort between CSICOP, Skeptic Society, JREF, Penn & Teller, and any other skeptic groups or individuals out there, in order to expose Sylvia Brown once and for all. I am certainly short on time and low on money but I would be at least willing to sacrifice in those areas if it meant debunking Sylvia Brown. Let myself and the rest of the Skeptic community know what we can do to help. Thanks.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

dimossi,

You got this on video as well? :)

KING: (UNINTELLIGIBLE), the Netherlands, hello.

CALLER: Hello, Larry. How are you?

KING: Fine. What's your question?

CALLER: My question is on behalf of my wife, which is how is her currently deceased mother doing.

KING: Is she living?

CALLER: She is deceased.

BROWNE: I didn't get it.

KING: His wife, who died.

BROWNE: Wasn't this a disintegrating illness?

CALLER: Yes, cancer.

BROWNE: Yes, well, it's disintegrating. The whole body begins to...

KING: He said yes.

BROWNE: She's doing great. You know what she's done is she's come around you and put her hand on your face one night. And for some strange reason, you'll feel kind of like a breeze on your face at times.

She's also always around you for some reason when you're in a vehicle.

CALLER: That is possible.

BROWNE: You know how you're always looking in the rearview mirror because you feel like there is a presence? That's because she's there.

KING: Is anybody on the other side unhappy?

BROWNE: No one.

KING: So whenever you pass on, nothing but good.

BROWNE: You're happy. There, nobody is griping, nobody is mad. Nobody is ticked off.

KING: Could be boring, too.

BROWNE: No, because you're lecturing, you're researching.

KING: You're doing things?

BROWNE: You're doing things, you're not just floating around on a cloud.

Oops....wrong person. It was the caller's wife's mother who was dead. Not the caller's wife.

Priceless!! :D

GREAT THANKS

GREAT THANKS go to dimossi for capturing and providing this video, enabling me to quickly type up a transcript.

Yeah, I can capture that call as well. Do you mind reminding me about when this call happens during the show? I don't know if I will have time to get the video up today, but as soon as I do I will post a link. :D

Thanks! It's halfway into the show - judging from the transcript! :)

What TV capture software do you use?

A few thoughts on Sylvia's comments

BROWNE: You know how you're always looking in the rearview mirror because you feel like there is a presence? That's because she's there.

Really? I thought it was tailgating.

KING: Is anybody on the other side unhappy?

BROWNE: No one.

KING: So whenever you pass on, nothing but good.

BROWNE: You're happy. There, nobody is griping, nobody is mad. Nobody is ticked off.

This would require such an alteration in personality in some people that they wouldn't be the same person. So what would be the point of an afterlife?

KING: Could be boring, too.

BROWNE: No, because you're lecturing, you're researching.

...and after you've heard all the lectures there are and done all the research there is a billion trillion times, and you still have all eternity to look forward to...what then?

What a simplistic belief system! I sincerely hope Sylvia doesn't really believe all the malarky she's spouting.
