Sylvia Browne - Jon Ronson Article in UK Guardian

Wow Robert, that is some great article. Kudos to Mr. Ronson. Absolute must reading.

So what dirty secrets did the PI she hired turn up about you, huh? Inquiring minds want to know!

Wow...and I thought SB was a slug, low life palomino brazen hussy before...I didn't think my opinion of her could get any lower. Boy, was I wrong.

Excellent article.

RSL runs the stopsylviabrowne.com website and scares the rule ten out of her.

Dude....I know that part. I've met Robert several times. I record Sylvia each week and email it to him. It's juicy stuff the PI found that I want to know about. Seriously. He's a computer programmer. He must have some hellacious skeletons in his closet.

I agree with HamRadioGuy great article. Montel Williams has one sick sense of humour, by that article.

Like he's gonna post it here where his better half is also a poster! As if.

Edit - forgot to give kudos to Jon Ronson for his article.

Well, there is the time I shot a man in Reno, just to... well, frankly, just to write a song about it. It didn't turn out so well though, as apparently someone else had already done it. :(

[secret]Don't tell anyone, but I heard he has the hots for someone that goes by the nick name "Jabba the Hutt".

With that, a hasty exit stage left!

"Van Hornwell'?? The "Japanese girl"?!

GRRR....!!

It's the same story over and over. It seems only the people who have never had readings remain fans for long, exactly the way many of the people on the cruise were reacting. And so many look for ways to excuse the poor "readings" they did receive, especially if they paid for them or are emotionally invested in having something she said be true (usually those who are grieving or suffering, which makes it even worse).

Well, at least we know Robert and Mr. Randi probably have nothing to worry about since in Sylvia world, the opposite of whatever she says tends to be true.

Then, just as I think how self-assured she must be not to let their attacks eat her up, she says, "I've had a private investigator on Randi and Lancaster, and I know enough on them to hang 'em." She reels off a few defamatory allegations, then adds, "But I'm not going to play that game. That's vengeance, see? Who cares? Randi is an evil little man. When I told him he was going to have a heart attack, and then he did - ha! - he wouldn't give me any kudos."

What a strange thing to say in an interview. My question would have been, why does a "psychic" need a private investigator?

Regarding Browne's heart attack "prediction," in September 2001 Randi wrote:

On the King show, Sylvia provided a motherly warning to me that I should "check" my "left ventricle," a cheap shot on her part, obviously designed to provide viewers with a spicy prediction that cannot immediately be checked on, as well as diverting attention from her rather ineffective performance. And not too wild a try, since I'm on public record as having had heart attacks and an angioplasty.

Great article. Imagine paying all that money to see her. I would love to see any follow-up that the reporter gets from his article.

It also seems like the more people talk to Sylvia the more they feel like she is a fraud. Sylvia is what I would call jaded. She doesn't care any more, when you have to keep telling people how long you have been doing this and not all about your successes then you have a problem.

Oh, I think I already know his dark little secrets. We have a very happy life, but it's pretty ho-hum compared to the life she leads . . . galavanting all over the world, people gushing over you everywhere you go (so much so that she is sick of it), bringing in more money than I could ever imagine, going on television, giving lectures like she's some sort of authority on something - what exactly is she an authority on? Oh yeah! Mother God and all the crap Sylvia makes up about Her. And Angels, of course. Those silly creatures who change the color of their wings with the season. Sylvia is an authority on stuff no one else sees or hears. Hmm. People like her are usually locked up in a hospital or pushing a shopping cart in Downtown Los Angeles!

Three cheers for Jon Ronson ! :) Allthough I have to say that the article is lousy stylistically. You'd think a multiple author and long time journalist would be a better writer. I'd probably have to read more of his material to make a judgement but it's pedestrian the way a high school newspaper article written by the sophmore English class is.

That's exactly the experience I had the time I sought a Sylvia event. He could have been describing my experience. So many tragic stories, just so, so sad. They all flock to her and she blurts out outcomes like she's reading from a cue card and they come away so disappointed and short-changed. Accepting but disappointed.

It was shocking to realize that I was the one of the only person in the room that didn't recently have someone close die. And probably the only one that didn't have an tragic life event.

Wow. The bit about 'Van Hornwell' and 'the Japanese girl' made me want to throw up a little. She has no conscience.

A lot of what he observed and said sound very familiar...............and she is still bragging that she had PI's investigate RSL?

She can't remember Hornbecks' name, doesn't remember the "Japanese Girl", yet she can sit for hours at a lecture and recite the exact same talk over and over again.

So, now Sylvia can't give interviews on cruise ships, knows that she can be ambushed anywhere, still falls back on "they are a dark soul/dark entity" to anyone that questions her, chooses to forget her biggest public screw ups.........she is definately backed into a corner, and Nancy probably got chewed out royally after that interview.

A great article, and his experiences first hand validate so many articles on the stopsylviabrowne website.

Thanks for posting this Robert.
