I recently posted about the accuracy of some of Sylvia Browne's 2006 predictions, and my wife just mentioned that James Randi had mentioned me near the very end of this week's SWIFT (can't post the link yet, as I'm a noob on this forum, but try www dot randi dot org/jr/2007-01/012607different.html).

One of the things that I'd like to say, other than it's cool to be mentioned positively by The Amazing Randi, is that I'd like to invite anyone who has more expertise than me regarding testing Sylvia Browne's predictions to double check my own figures and claims. I think there's nothing worse than claiming someone is a fraud, and to then base that claim on flawed data or analysis. Given that I indeed have a bias - I actually believe she's a fake - there is certainly an opportunity for me to be less than objective, so I invite this community to keep me honest.

You can find the link to my analysis of Sylvias 2006 predictions on the SmugBaldy blog near the bottom of this week's SWIFT.

Cheers, Michael

Michael, I received your email on this a while back on the StopSylviaBrowne site, but am afraid that I have yet to have the time to analyze your work.

It's great that you are open to suggestions. I believe there was a thread about your stats in the "This Week's Commentary" forum here.

I think it's great....Randi's about to be on CNN (it's on a commercial)-- it would have been cool to compare her to someone such as yourself just making random predictions. It's not just accuracy that is the problem...it's her claims regarding her sources (divine)--if you and others can do similarly by chance--then it sure isn't likely to be a divine source unless those divine immeasurable invisible entities are also liars.

Thanks RS and JLam - I'm just finding my way around this forum. I tend to spend time discussing these issues on StupidEvilBastard, but since attending this year's TAM, I thought I should stretch a bit.

As far as being open to suggestions, I want to make the strongest case I can given the data I have. I also know that there's no such thing as true objectivity, so I think the next best thing would be some sort of peer review.
