Researchers discover new evidence of superconductivity at near room temperature

Now all you need to do is develop a new type of insulation for your superconducting wires. Surely that should be much easier than developing a room temperature superconductor.
It just needs to be strong enough to keep the wire under 200 gigapascals of pressure. Also make it so the warmer it gets the harder it squeezes, like shrinkwrap, that would be cool. Easy peasy.

Wow. Good article, thanks.

I'm thinking that 2 million atmospheres may be just a little beyond shrink wrap. :)

I'm sure this will find some uses in some specialist lab somewhere, but the energy used to achieve 2 million atmospheres cancels out any saving from superconductivity.........by a factor of millions.

200 GPa is the same order of magnitude as the maximum attainable with a diamond anvil cell, the highest sustained pressure we can produce.

This is their first successful attempt to replace low temperatures with high pressure. The next step is to reduce the pressure required. This, I suggest, will be done.

If this is legit (And there is nothing to say it isn't) this is quite amazing

Total clickbait!

Is it possible to trade pressure with temperature so you have superconductivity at quite low temperatures and quite high pressures? ('Quite' in this instance meaning still mental but not quite as mental as before)
