You gotta like this woman...

Nevertheless, the Manhattan district attorney's office is investigating allegations of overcharging at Scores. To which I say, as someone who has worked in strip clubs, you've got to be kidding - there's no such thing as "overcharging" in this industry.

Does Christian Dior "overcharge" when it sells a handbag for $13,000? That depends on how you look at it. If you see the handbag as a few pieces of stitched leather, the price is grossly inflated. If you see it as a source of heady self-worth - a passport to an exclusive club - then it's hard to say what price would be too high.

This is the economic logic relied on by purveyors of luxury goods. It's not about the utility of the product. It's about making the customer feel as if he has arrived.

Strip clubs, particularly high-end ones like Scores, provide a luxury service. That $3,000 price tag on a bottle of Champagne isn't just for the beverage; it's part of the price of the experience. Mr. McCormick probably didn't go to Scores strictly to see topless women, or even for the physical contact and potential sexual gratification of a lap dance. Both experiences can be had in simpler, cheaper ways.

Rather, he and his colleagues probably went because being surrounded by fawning, semi-naked, Champagne-flute-wielding women was for them a symbol of success. It's like hiring a chauffeured limousine: a taxi would get you there, but without the aesthetic experience.

You have to wonder why this guy is even making a fuss. He looks like a jackass. Surely, he had to know the bill would come due; he's a businessman, for God's sake!

This time it's an executive from Missouri named Robert McCormick, who, treating himself and friends, ran up a $241,000 bill at Scores on his corporate American Express card two years ago.

What kind of executive behaves like that? That's been known to kill billion-dollar companies.

I hope his stock dives down to nothing.

Am I going to be the first to say this...???

The girls had better have been worth it!

When using a strip club as a business venue:

Get to know the owner/manager
Negotiate "events" up-front
Do not drink to excess

Then all will be well.

That's what I hear, anyway :)

Having been to one in Germany, it works like this:

Stripper/prostitute comes up and sits next to you. "Would you buy me a drink?" "Sure..."

She orders one, and you its not until it's delivered and the waitress says "35 DM please" that you realize you've been stung.

So how much of this cost is "esthetic experience" and how much is a pre-planned ripoff? In other industries, you have the legal right for 3 days to back out of expensive contracts (houses, "window replacement", etc.) for the purpose of letting people get out of stuff they signed due to high pressure situations. Given the girl is a de facto employee, this is a scam in the true sense of the word.

Wait for it...

Keep waiting...

The worst part, I bought her a second drink.

Goofball :)

Tell me, how many days do you get to get a refund after you take a plane flight?

In this day and age anyone who does not know how these places operate should have an expensive education.

Given that his company's stock is about to be de-listed, apparently he's not a very good one.

An experience known to every sailor in the world. The expression you are looking for is "clip joint".

I have no sympathy for a business executive with a corporate credit card who acts dumber than a drunken sailor.

There is some speculation that part of that bill might have been for actual sex, which would, of course, be illegal. Therefore, if true, in order for Scores to prove the charges, they would have to demonstrate what services were rendered, which could possibly result in the business being shut down or at least heavily penalized in some other way. Not that I'm defending that dumbass, though. Let's face it, does anyone really have any sympathy for either party involved here?

Another tale of strippers and woe.

As regards SCORES, they've still got a little of their remnants as a mafia joint in them. It wouldn't surprise me to find they padded (heh) the guy's bill some or even slipped in a zero or two on the price of champagne after he signed the charge slip. But yeah, I'm with Psi Baba. A pox on both parties, but not one so bad that it diminishes the entertainment value of this story.
