Stories Like This Really Set Me Off

Claus,

I think it depends on which brand of xtianity you follow. The Methodist Cross is, I think, depicted as a cross engulfed in flames. Not the same thing as the KKK cross burning intimidation skit, mind you, but a burning cross NTL.

c0rbin,

OK. I thought the methodists were the least likely to engage in anything emotional, which a burning cross must be said to be.

As you say, there is a difference between a symbol and actual cross-burning.

Cross Burned On Black Minister's Lawn

WTF. I'm really angry - though, even more maddeningly, not surprised - at this incident, or these incidents rather. What is this, the Sixties?

Holy &$@%.
It still happens, Josh. We had an incident near Houston a few years ago. What has changed since the sixties is that now people are outraged by it. When I was growing up in Alabama in the sixties, it was acknowledged as "just one of those things". Yeah, I've actually seen a cross burning. I was about seven and I ask my mom what was going on. She just said it was some very bad men holding a meeting. Back in those days, many of them didn't even bother to wear masks (or even robes) because racism was nothing to be ashamed of.

Times really have changed, and the fact that a rare incident like this makes almost everybody furious is good evidence of that.

Unfortunately, idiocy does not seem to be something humanity will ever evolve beyond.

Please feel free to come to my place and burn some crosses on my lawn. I'll provide the popcorn.
