Stop Sylvia email: "My experience with alleged psychic Chris Dufresne"

Oh, yes. very.

It's how she (and some - but not all - other self-described psychics) justify their apparently not foreseeing the bad events in their lives (in Browne's case, her five or six failed marriages, her heart attack, her felony conviction, the creation of Stop Sylvia Browne, and more).

For some reason it doesn't stop her from claiming to know how long she will live (until she is 88 years old).

Ack! I kept thinking she said she'd live until she was 93. But maybe that is how long her mother lived.

Yeah, the "I can't be psychic about myself," thing equates John Edward (Crapper McGee) saying that he won't even talk to skeptics. How very, very convenient.

Oh, and Sylvia CAN be psychic about her family, at least somewhat. I remember reading in one of her books (yes...*sigh* I used to read them!) that she helped her non-psychic son find his dog. At least I think that's how the story went.

Also, she was able to telepathically ask her son Chris to come to meet her at the airport, iirc, when some man was badgering her. Allegedly, that is.

Not to mention she can't read for you if you are psychic yourself, or if she is close to you, and she can't read dark entities, whose lives are uncharted...

Getting the impression that the woman who wrote the email is Canadian.

Do they have consumer protection laws in Canada? Can she make a formal complaint for breach of contract? That might stir things up a bit!

In the end believe it will only be head on legal challenges that will shut down the so called 'psychics' from peddling their useless wares.

Just like most products and services need to prove they do what they claim in order to be sold, think we need to be driving for laws to demand that anyone claiming they are 'psychic' proves it before they can sell their services. That should shut them the ◊◊◊◊ up once and for all!

Otherwise I am going into selling imaginary cars. Look, I know you can't see them and you don't actually get to go anywhere, but honest, if you just imagine hard enough you can take a journey anywhere you like. They really do work!

Forgot about those exclusions. However, she has said, I think, that a dark entity would never consider having a reading because they don't care about their path, or something like that?

Hah! I can imagine one "psychic" reading for another. I'd love to see if one, such as John Edward, would read for Sylvia, or the other way around. Would they try to subtly try to discredit the other a tad, or would they form a sort of unity to try to make the field look good. Hm...

Well, even if the dark entities don't come for readings, it's still useful. Like, "The reason you didn't get that job I said you'd get is because the interviewers were all dark entities..." "The reason he didn't marry you like I said he would is because he met that dark entity..." "How could I have foreseen Robert Lancaster's web site when he's obviously a dark entity?" "I didn't know whether or not Obama would win because...."

Kind of like psychic failure damage control.

She should have called them her "I thought I might be retiring this first year but I changed my mind and this farewell tour thing worked so well I think I'll just keep doing them every year until things pick up and I go back to calling them normal tours because my fans won't notice and even if they do, who cares" tours.

Too wordy. Something like "Fifth Annual Farewell Tour" would work fine.

Allecher - Oooh! TOTALLY! :D

Ex-Min - You're right. There are always the ... what are they called ... the 'weasel words'? Always the excuses and evasions to cover your butt. Yes, she could always claim that even if the person being read isn't a dark entity, the person in question is and therefore she will be wrong. Of course, wouldn't it be remiss of Francine to not tell her right away that so-and-so is a dark entity?

Argh...by now I think she will be even better at covering her bases. Well, at least she SHOULD be. However, from what I read here and recalling some past letters Robert has received, her and her son's attitude is worsening and people are noticing it. Not a good business decision at all. I'd think they'd really work on being nicer so they would look like better martyrs when "picked on" by skeptics.

"Badgering"? Snort. C'mon, Sylvia. Maybe he just wanted a good backscratch.

She must be used to Francine being remiss by now, since it seems to happen so often. Like Francine telling everyone for years that a great cataclysm would happen in 1998, then 2004, in which California would drop off. And telling everyone that angels had no wings - she would know, right? being up there hanging out with them. And then a decade later producing an entire bestselling book worth of info on angels and all their wings. So who can tell what Francine will do? It seems Francine is a bit unreliable. And Sylvia has a selective memory, claiming on the cover of her spirit guide book that she'd never known Francine to be wrong.

At any rate Sylvia always maintained that Francine didn't help her with her readings or volunteer much information unless Sylvia specifically asked. I guess this way she could also fall back on, "Well, I'm only human." And it definitely put an end to annoying questions about how Francine would have failed to tell her something important like that during a reading.

LOL! Wow! After reading many letters such as these throughout the years I always think I heard it all then some other dummy comes along and lowers the human brain bar even more.

How do these peeps function on a daily basis?
Thanks for the chuckle Robert!

Good question Brattus, I have often wondered the same thing. Some of these people just seem alien, as if they live in a world I can't recognize. I sometimes imagine that I could notice something if I ever ran into them, though I know it isn't like that.

Even monsters can look like normal people.

Deleted. A bit too snide. Sorry!

I suspect that the spin on the farewell tour will be that this is the same farewell tour, and that she just took a break in the middle of it for some spin-friendly reason. A mid-season hiatus, so to speak.

Sylvia would never let John Edward do a reading for her. In Atlantic City she made it very apparent that she was so much better than him at their combined "show", stating that he couldn't sell out the venue so she had to come to save it. She would never let herself be read by such an amateur.

Tsk. And to think he included her in the dedication of his first book...
