Stinky Flowers Anyone?

I'm heading out of work early tonight to go see this thing; I hope it is still in bloom.

edited to add: hmm, the existence of a 5 ft flower that smells like a rotting corpse implies the existence of a similarly large insect. If I don't post after today, the giant fly got me!!!

I went and saw this flower on friday afternoon.

Unfortunately, It had already mostly closed up. There was not much of a smell, and I definitely would not compare it to a rotting corpse. It wasn't "flowerlike", but it wasn't unpleasant, either. Perhaps it was stronger/different when fully in bloom.

So, it was interesting in the sense of thinking "hmm. I'm looking at the largest flower in the world", but it wasn't awe inspiring, at least to me. I am happy to have seen it, however; it was worth the trip. Thanks for the heads up, Diogenes.

There is also a plant called stapillia or star-flower that is fly pollinated, it does smell like rotten meat but you have to really stink your nose in the bloom.
