Just in case the foreigners on the board haven't heard. It appears that his wife keeps attacking him and he keeps denying it.
The carer said the motor neurone sufferer was left with gashes, broken bones and bruises.
From here.

And
Leading British scientist Stephen Hawking has issued a statement denying allegations that he had been assaulted.
From here.
The nurse had accused Elaine Hawking - the Cambridge professor's second wife - of being behind mysterious injuries to the motor neurone victim. Among them, she claimed, were a three-inch gash to the throat caused by "harsh shaving", and a broken wrist.
From here.

Very bad stuff. His wife sounds like a nasty piece of work.

BTW, does anyone know if sufferers of ALS feel pain at the same levels as non-sufferers in areas of their body over which they no longer have control?

Let's hope it isn't true. Brains like his, no matter the body that carries them around, are needed.

I don't think sensation is affected.
ALS is a type of MND - Motor Neurone Disease.
Motor neurones connect with muscles (not sensory receptors)

BTW: Innocent until proven quilty

IF this is true, it will just be one more in the long list of otherwise exquisite people who behave like complete idiots when it comes to love matters.

BTW, Steve Shackel's page is an astonishing chronicle of one man's continuing fight with ALS.

Broken bones? Easy to check:

Was SH hospitalized for it?
Do X-rays show healed bones?

So, why wasn't it checked? Hmmm.....
