Yes, if I had $1000 + dollars to "gamble away" I'd rather go to NY and "gamble" on a reading with JE, than I would go to Las Vegas for a weekend and lose it there. After all these months of talking about him--and mediumship--the chance to see what kind of reading I would have with him would be irresistable (as well as being a worthwhile "gamble" on ADC, if he turned out to be "the real deal" after all).

This post from Clancie in the

So, JE has a 3 year waiting list? Think again... thread

got me thinking... with all the activity and interest in JE on this forum, would folks be willing to nominate a sitter and donate $$$ to get them a reading? Right now JE claims not to be adding more people to the waiting list for private readings.

from http://www.johnedward.net/privatereadings.htm
As of January 1st, 2002 John Edward will not be scheduling any private readings for the near future.
Opportunities for private readings will become available again after the current scheduled waiting list diminishes. We thank you for visiting the official John Edward website worldwide.

So either we could plan to sponsor someone for a private reading in the future or instead focus on getting that someone to a seminar or Crossing Over taping.

Here's a list of JE's upcoming appearances.

I realize we all have our lives and our jobs or laid back retirements or whatever... but is there interest in this idea?

Only if they can smuggle in a tape recorder. I'm not trusting anyone's memories of the experience.

Man a recording would be fantastic. I see that taping is forbidden at workshops but what about private readings and seminars?

Maybe they'd at least allow pen and paper note taking at a seminar? <-- I'm sure somebody posting at JREF knows JE's rules regarding audio/video recording and what can be taken into the seminars... could you share this info or point me to a reference? www.johnedward.net doesn't seem to have much info.

Hi dingler44,

Well, at first glance I thought you meant me! I was very touched!
:)

Actually, its funny you mentioned that because after I wrote it I thought, "I'd contribute to Randi getting a reading." Then I changed my mind. I really think someone needs to be somewhat open to the experience, even if remaining highly skeptical. Randi seems a bit beyond that--from what I've seen on LKL at least.

Problem is...even with all the money in the world, JE isn't giving private readings. And skeptics have been to the seminars (one of the "Commentary's" recounted the impressions of three skeptics at one). Plus several people from this forum have seen JE in a seminar (Mark Tidwell, Instig8r, Lurker). But most attendees don't get read at seminars.

Cheaper idea....in the cucrrent issue of Skeptical Inquirer (I haven't seen it yet) Jim Underdown (tape recorder concealed) attended and critiqued a CO taping. It would be great to purchase the unedited copy of the transcripts he made--or the unedited copy of Ian Rowland's readings....but I don't think either of them are for sale. :(

And....a bit of mediumship lore. A believer at TVTalkshows actually offered to pay for Claus to come to LA to be read by medium Brian Hurst. But (for reasons that still remain hotly debated), CFL declined. Still....a nice offer!

edited to add: There's a "no A/V" taping policy at seminars and private JE readings, dingler44. (Underdown smuggled his in).

Emotions can cloud thinking. ;)

Wouldn't that be great if Randi got a personal reading? We'd probably have to get him to sign a contract saying he wouldn't verbally abuse Edward for the duration of the reading.

How much do private readings cost?

Haha - you don't know that! JE might have his price... not that I'm even suggesting trying to bribe him. It pains me just to think of paying the asked price for his services.

Yeah that would be interesting. There's just so little out there to examine... which is the point of sponsoring a local.

Sponsor a JE sitter
When I read the subject of the thread, I got the idea sponsoring a JE sitter would be a bit like donating money to a "Disastor Victims" charity...

dingler44,

An hour JE private reading costs $300. (A bargain compared with Sylvia at $1500/hr).

My "psychic prediction" is that most people here would balk (to say the least! :D) at giving ANY amount of money to those "Frauds"!

But...If I were Shermer, Randi, etc. I'd certainly be curious enough to spend my $300 just in order to write about the experience of "A Reading with JE" (preferably as part of a book--you know, the expose of all this that "has yet to be written" :) ).

Well if we could find someone who can get a reading and be willing to wear a "wire" and be briefed and debriefed afterwards (such dramatic words) then I for one will stump up the money.
