I was flipping channels before work this morning, and came across Benny Hinn. He had a guest on promoting a book. The book is Spiritual House Cleaning, by Alice & Eddie Smith.

Well, this lady (presumably Alice Smith) was talking about how to get all the Satanic stuff out of your house. I only wish I had recorded it, because the laundry list of potentially evil objects was astounding. Of course she attacked Harry Potter, which was, "not Witchcraft 101, but advanced Witchcraft."

The real prize advice was to be careful of antiques, as you have no way of knowing what devilish purpose they had been put to. She suggested that if you have a bad spirit in the house and a suspicious antique, then you might put it in the garage for a while to see if it improves the situation. That one caused the orange juice come out my nose!

She also said it's OK to sell rather than toss out satanic stuff, and donate the $$ to Benny Hinn ministries or other ministries. I don't get that one. It's OK to pass on satanic objects to others?

One more funny bit was that this discussion was capped off by stating the goal was to drive "superstition" out of your life!

That say's it all.

Advanced Witchcraft eh? Thanks to having three kids I am the proud owner of all five Harry Potter books and I have read all of them. Sadly I am still unable to perform even a simple levitation of a feather. Maybe I am just stupid.

I am willing to bet that D&D was high on her list too, since I have heard similar claims made about it. Alas I must have gotten ripped off there too since I can't find the part in any of the books that tell me how to perform real magic. It's a shame too since I would love nothing more than to polymorph my neighbors noisy dog into a hydra. Ah well.

The things these people believe really makes me shake my head in disbelief.

Might I suggest Magic in Theory and Practise by A. Crowley alleged and claimed by himself to be the evilest man in the world.

And I would think that spiritual house cleaning would require removing Reader Digest for a start.

LOL. What utter nonsense!! Why so many Christians buy into this garbage I have no idea. They seem to portray a weak God who is powerless to protect them from anything. Although, I don't believe that any protection is needed.

I have three Harry Potter books and do not have demons running about my home. :p

Ugh. This sort of crap sickens me, but I will give the greedy money grubbers a tiny kudo for not suggesting people destroy stuff.

When I was active on the newsmax.com boards I knew one guy on there who used to process estates after people died and he'd go through and destroy anything he felt was Satanic. Old Playboys, Islamic artwork, kitchen witches, books about astrology and thing he felt had a demonic taint to it was burned or shredded or he took a chainsaw to it.

I was sickened at what sort of curios and artwork he might have eradicated from the earth. And for some reason, he was offended when I compared him with the Taliban...

Imagine what the Xians did to the great libraries of Antiquity.

Well... I dont know about my house. In the living room I burned a large pentagram into the carpet... I thought it looked tacky so I decided to stain the carpet with goats blood (from a virgin goat of course, I dont accept tainted goats blood)... well now what am I supposed to do with my skull of my neighbors deceased cat, Java... it makes a nice conversation piece but she expects me to throw it out just because it talks backwards... yeah, it talks... I found that if I feed it Juicyfruit gum then it stays happy... on my walls I've crucified chickens to inverted black crosses and I pray to them quite often... I've noticed that since I began praying to my chickens that I havent had to go to hospital at all... what I'm going to get rid of my beloved chickens and get the flu, I dont think so... once I picked up a Harry Potter book and I conjured the devil... nice guy the devil is... also he's quite a formitable checkers opponent... I am opposed to this "spiritual cleaning"... I should bring her to my house and leave her alone in one of the rooms, the walls like to grow arms absorb strangers into the house... I dont know where they go from there...

I have a friend who's little family is very big into the Harry Potter books and they DO have demons running about the house.

Of course, those are their kids and they were there long before the books. ;)

Here's the link to the Amazon.com page for this book. Read the customer reviews. It's a study in superstitious attitudes.

What I want to know is, and I ask this of believers (a la billiefan), what has this got to do with being in God's grace? I mean, if you are really buy into John 3:16 and accept Jesus Christ as your savior, what has a bunch of haunted objects got to do with it? Speaking as an outsider, I think this kind of supersition is very un-Christian.

It seems to me that these beliefs put power over men's souls into the hands of very mundane forces. For instance, Alice Smith was talking about a consultation she did for a customer (?) that complained that her children could see a "brown" spirit flying around the house (talk about driving your kids crazy!), and she found a painting of a native American scene (she emphasized that not all 'southwestern art' is evil) that depicted an Indian with his soul ascending to heaven. She investigated the back of the canvas and found that it was signed by an artist who claimed to be a shaman. Aha! Source of trouble found.

But wait! Any old dude who calls himself a shaman and gets his painting onto your wall can cause spirits to fly around your house? That's putting a lot of magical power into mortal hands. Doesn't faith in Christ act as an amulet agaist this kind of attack?

And these same people complain about esoteric superstitions like Feng Shui...

To UnrepentantSinner, I am not sure but I believe it was a group of Xian monks who burned the great library in Alexandria. This was the most extensive collection of writings in the world. It may have included historical accounts dating back centuries before any historical knowlege we now have. Of course, we will never know for sure because the Church decided to impose it's own revisionist history on the world. Anyone who has more detailed information about this, please jump in.

I don't know the answer to this, but ...

I googled "Library of Alexandria," and the first link is an Egyptian site, which goes out of its way to make the point that it was destroyed somewhat by Romans and then finally in the 5th century by Christians -- emphasizing that it was already long gone before the moslem Arabs arrived.

I'll look around some more. I had always heard that it was the Arabs, but then I won't trust this site just yet. It's trying a little too hard to dispel the notion that it was the Arabs.

More on the library's destruction... from this site.

It says...
Early in the year A. D. 642, Alexandria surrendered to Amrou, the Islamic general leading the armies of Omar, Caliph of Baghdad. Long one of the most important cities of the ancient world and capital of Byzantine Egypt, Alexandria surrendered only after a long siege and attempts to rescue the city by the Byzantines. On the orders of Omar, Caliph of Baghdad, the entire collection of books (except for the works of Aristotle) stored at the Library of Alexandria were removed and used as fuel to heat water for the city's public baths.

The last one is disturbing. Sell the satanic stuff which is causing troubles? I would say destroy it.
