Poor Ebay. They are caught in the middle of the social paradigm we are trying to break: that religion deserves special consideration over other superstitions.

Reading this also brings another point. Whenever someone mentions something as a proof for some theory, certain things they mention raise red flags. If someone who is discussing the existence of the afterlife even mentions John Edward in a favorable light, I know what courses of actions they usually choose and I react accordingly. I almost unconsciously dismiss their argument. The mention of certain people just triggers reactions.

Therefore, when the man selling his soul mentioned the JREFMDP, I empathically imagined the Ebay PR woman thinking, "Oh god, it's one of those Randi fans!" Not that our mission is any less important, that's just the image I get. Zealotry is seldom pleasant.

The whole thing was just a joke, but if anyone is interested my "soul" is still as available as ever. I accept payment in cash, check, money order or Scotch.

What does this have to do with the "ghost in a jar" auctions which were the big fad on ebay a few months ago?

Why can't you just sell your own ghost in a jar?

I just wanted to say that I thought this whole concept was absolutely brilliant!
It's the funniest thing I have read for ages.
Well done DVFinn - you set the pace!
