Thanks.Great selection catsmate. I’ll add in the Pogues “And the band played waltzing Matilda” to complete the set.
Thanks.
I was going for a Vietnam theme specifically because I was discussing the Aussies involvement with a couple of colleagues, who were unaware of it ("All The Way With JBJ"). Ah, the young....
Probably it was seeing the reference to BHP in the news started my mind down the track.
Though I prefer Eric's take....:
It's curious how some groups claim certain wars or battles; personally I associate Gallipoli not with the ANZACS but with the 'Toughs and the Toffs' of the RDF.
So why not add the Fureys to the list?
I think I slightly prefer the Pogues version but both are powerful.
On your point, my maternal grandfather was an ANZAC (Kiwi) at Passchendaele he suffered ill health for the rest of his life and I understand died early because of it, and recently found that an English relative was at Gallipoli
Next March my wife and I will visit Passchendaele and other WW1 sites. My grandfather and his two brothers served in Egypt and Belgium. They all came back.
On a rather sad note it looks like my brother sold my grandfather’s WW1 medals. I’m trying to replace them to hand them down.
