So how will Astrology be effected? No Pluto.

Yay, I was right all along :D

They only added Pluto a few decades ago so I don't imagine taking it out again will cause any major problems. Did Nostrodamus ever predict a planet would disappear? Sounds like just the sort of thing Nostrodamites would like.

Planets going, new ones arriving..no doubt my job is going to change now,and friendships will be tested;not to mention the coming into money and changes on the domestic front!
Its the end,I fear... :D

I think we should stop looking for planets here and in other systems. It is too dangerous.

From the wikipedia link:
"Pluto is also associated with extreme power and corruption; the discovery of Pluto in 1930 coincided with the rise of fascism in Europe and the major proliferation of organized crime in the United States."

Sooooooooooooo, now that Pluto isn't a planet, organized crime and fascism will be a thing of the past? That works. Somebody tell the White House.

Yes, Pluto was demoted to a dwalf planet. This may be bad for the astrologers, since planets are certainly stronger than lowly dwalf planets. But let's not forget that Ceres, formerly an asteroid, has now been promoted to it's new stronger status of dwalf planet, which may cancel out most of the negative effects of Pluto's demotion.

I'm sure the astrologers will be putting in some overtime on this one. Fear not.:)

Oh, like anything scientists say is gonna change what astrologers believe...

The accuracy of Astrology will not be affected at all, which is further proof that Astrology is true! No matter what, its accuracy is the same. :p

As long as we can still make crappy Uranus puns and astrologers can make accurate predications that affect approximately 1/12th of the population, I'm happy.

(Actually I'm only posting this because I thought of this too and figured it was a really good question, but JPK got there first - kudos to you).

Excuse me, fellow skeptics, but let's get real: Pluto did not disapear (nor did it appear earlier). It is there and has "always" been there.

Obviously, the sensible astrologer would answer: "So scientists decided to label it a dwaf planet. Who cares? Pluto certainly doesn't."

Whether such a thing as a sensible astrologer exists, is quite another matter ;).

How has Swindon been effected now that it's a city instead of a town? I went there the other day and it's no different at all.

Do you think Pluto gives a damn what what bureaucratic labels we Earth creatures choose to use?

There's a hilarious film that ridicules this kind of petty nonsense:

"The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down A Mountain". It tells ther story of a Welsh village whose inhabitants are desperate to have the piece of high ground nearby declared offically as a mountain.

If the astrologers don't take any notice of the change in Pluto's status then they've got more sense than the astronomers!

...yes: An astrologer told another astrologer to look up Uranus - he did, but all he found was a black hole...

Zackly. They'll just say that the 'celestial body formerly known as Pluto' is still there, still the same size and mass, tracing the same orbit it always has.

Still doing doodly-squat to influence our daily lives...

On a similar theme, whatever happened with that Russian astrologer that tried suing NASA over over the Deep Impact mission. She was claiming that it would alter the comets course and thefore throw off all her predictions.

Actually nothing has phyically changed about the planet Pluto since this issue arose. it still has the same mass, albedo and orbit. This whole subject is more one of conventions of language and terminology than science. It still orbits the sun, albeit differently to the other 8 major planets, but I just see this as part of its unique character.
