So, who wants to jump out of an airplane, for what is rumored to be an incredible experience, this summer?! I am now formulating the plans to have the few brave souls of us do so! Perhaps the day or so before TAM8!

No experience is necessary. (This will be my first time skydiving, too!) But, there will be a couple of rules and restrictions and such, to deal with. Some details are on the web site. I will outline them, later on.

I still have to iron out the details with my contacts, but I know this much: This is most-likely going to be the company we will use: http://www.vegasextremeskydiving.com . Don't let the word "Extreme" fool you: They welcome first-timer divers, and they come highly recommend by some folks I know, who know the industry.

The cost could come out to about $200.00. (I might be able to work something out to lower that, but I cannot promise anything, yet.)

I would like to start forming a list of those who would seriously consider such an endeavor.

What say you? Are you brave, soaring eagle; or a flightless, yellow chicken?!

I have always wanted to do this! If I could monitarily afford it I would be all about it. Do it next year, and I'm so in.

I'd be happy to come along and take pictures of everyone foolish enough to jump out of a perfectly good functioning airplane.

I believe there is the option of watching from the plane itself, too - for around $90. You get an aerial view of the divers and their canopies once they open.

For those who want something similar-looking, but perhaps less daring, there is an "Indoor" option:

(Though, I might not do that, this year, since I will probably be going for the real thing.)

There is also the brand-new SkyJump option, off the side of the Stratosphere tower:

Both are in the $100 range.

I might be interested, depending on the date. We'll only arrive on the 8th.

Update on Pricing and Requirements!

Looks like we might be able to jump, as a group, for about $185 each.

The bad news is that taking home a video of the activity will cost an extra $89. (This is standard for everyone, not just the groups.) It is an HD-quality video.

So, we're lookng at $275 total, for each person, if you want the video.

Requirements:
* You need to be at least 18 yrs of age, with valid picture ID
* weigh less than 240 lbs., be height and weight proportionate,
* and be in generally good health.

They can also usually accommodate people with some disabilities but please contact them for information.

I think I would rather do this on July 7th, if it were completely up to me.
But, if most of you prefer the 8th, then I suppose we would go then, instead.

Either day, we will likely head out from South Point, at around 10 AM. And, will likely return to the hotel around noon or so.

Try not to drink a lot of alcohol for several hours before heading out. They won't let you do it, if they feel you are "too drunk or hungover" to do so. But, they weren't more specific than that.

Sure, I'm interested. may have some conflicts with other area trips, but count me in for now. (Are you still supposed to shout, "Gerinomo" as you jump? I think I saw that in some old war movie....)

Sure. I'm in for the 7th or 8th. I was thinking of seeing Hoover Dam on the 7th but this is much more fun then some dam tour. Not sure if I'll bother with the video. We'll see how much spending money I can scrape together.

I have been skydiving about 6 times before but have never done a freefall.

I like it; count me in. And I'm happy to provide accessible physics insights to anyone interested.

If this is on the 7th, count me in. Leaving around 10am and being back around noon would be brilliant - maybe in time for the volunteers' lunch? ;)

I would go for the jump only, don't need a video...

Aren't you afraid you'll put everyone to sleep? :)
Overcame that fear long ago. Now skilled at picking pockets of those who succumb to my soporific monotone lessons. Fun and profitable.

ETA: Hoping for terminal speed on the 8th; I'm planning to arrive 7/7 (for you Brits, that would be 7/7).

Okay, I think we need a chart, to help organize this. If you are seriously interested in skydiving, please add or edit your name, and any comments about the date you could do it.

If, for some reason, you don't want your real name on this public thread, you can PM it to me, so at least I have it.
Forum Name | Real Name (optional) | Comments
DocM | ?? | 8th or no deal
Hamradioguy | ?? | ??
phyz | ?? | ??
Tamazon | ?? | Any Day
TsarBomba | ?? | ??
Wowbagger | Mitch Lampert | Any Day, with perhaps a slight preference for 7th
Yogzotot | ?? | 7th or no deal
Scrut | The Brave and Fearless | Waiting in the Bar
By the way, we don't even all have to go, at once. If some want to go on the 7th and others on the 8th, there can be two separate trips to the event! (Though, I will probably only be in one of them.)
