I think CTs only dragged Silverstein into their theory because of the "pull it" remark. Neverheless, they're stockpiling evidence against him: did you know he tried to claim on the insurance when his buildings collapsed? Astonishing!:jaw-dropp

It's also alleged by the Loosers that on 9/11 Silverstein had a doctor's appointment and his two children were both late for work that day.

I had a bunch of questions for the guy who said that but I know the answer would have been "how should I know? Go post on JREF troll"

So I'm posting on JREF, troll. One thing that impresses me about this place is the sheer amount of research some people have done. I honestly don't know where to start on the net. So I'm going to post the questions here and hope you guys will point me in the right direction.

What was Silverstein going to his doctor for? Was it a routine appointment or was he there for something specific?
How did his children get to work? Car? Subway?
Why were they late? Traffic jam? Delayed train?
Were his children late often?
If I was a government conspirator plotting to blow up the World Trade Centre, what, specifically, would I gain from these three people being in on the plot?
Silverstein had only held the lease for the complex since July of 2001. Is that right? What critical part could he play with so little time to go before the attacks?

That last one pretty much convinces me that what we have here are three coincidences. But I'd still like to learn more about them, if any resources are available.

Off the top of my head, because I don't have time to actually go and look up the old research I did on this at the moment, I can answer only a few of your questions.

1) I seem to recall that it was a medical appointment with a specialist that Mr. Silverstein had scheduled on Sept. 11/01. I'm not sure if it had something to do with the injuries he sustained several months earlier when he was hit by a car or not.

2) I have no idea how his children got to work or what made them late that day or how often they were late for work. That said, I'd also point out to the CTers that their own William Rodriguez was late for work that day, and that is what saved his life, too, since he says that normally, he'd have been up at Windows on the World at the time the first plane hit instead of being in the basement. As an aside, a friend of mine who worked in one of the towers was on vacation and out of state visiting her parents that week. I am absolutely certain that she wasn't in on the conspiracy, either.

3) It is true that Mr. Silverstein's lease agreement was only finalized in July, 2001. He had actually bid on it in January 2001. In fact, a week prior to the deadline, he was hit by a car while crossing the street on his way home at night and suffered some pretty grievous injuries (multiple fractures to his pelvis, etc.) that kept him hospitalized for several days. I seem to recall there being some issue about him arguing with doctors over his medication because he wanted to be able to think straight to put together his bid before the deadline, which was looming while he was in the hospital.

In any event, he was not the successful bidder, having lost to a realty company that was, at the time, the largest commercial landlord in Manhattan, by something like $50 million or so. But when that deal between the Port Authority and the other bidder fell apart, Mr. Silverstein put together a new deal and was successful.

Hope that's a useful start. Sorry I don't have time for more just now.

Some very useful stuff there. Truthers never mention that he was hit by a car(probably a big deal for a man who was, what, 69 years old?), or that Rodriguez was late too. They do mention that Silverstein insured the buildings against terrorist attacks just weeks before 9/11, but not in the context of him just having bought them.

Thanks a lot. A little context goes a long way.

Do they mention that the settlement on that insurance claim is not even sufficient to rebuild the WTCs, let alone make a profit from?

Let alone more to even get tenants into the WTC. Even WTC 7 is still largely unocupied (mostely the upper floors) at the moment. All the bussinesses that were at the WTC, have found new offices. I doubt they're eager to move back.

And they also don't mention that Silverstein has been paying on the WTC lease that he bought even though the buildings no longer exist. I believe the figure is $120 million/year x 5 years since 9/11 = $600 million. Actually, it's a bit more, as there was an escalator clause in there that kicked the annual rate up a bit (to $130 million/year I believe, but not sure when that went into effect). So he's paid $600+ million to the Port Authority and has collected how much rent? I'm guessing zero, or very close to zero. Not a good financial deal for Mr. Silverstein.

Plus, the last figure I saw for the cost of the Freedom Tower was $12 billion. Silverstein got $4.5 billion in insurance. So, he'll have to take on $7.5 billion in debt to finish the Freedom Tower. The annual interest on that will be, conservatively, $450 million (assuming 6% interest on the building loan).

I hope he lives long enough to see a profit from all this. But, at 74, I doubt he will.

I thought he wasn't able to get full ownership for the building, so another orginization was supposed to pay the dividends. I'll get a link...
