It's time to dump Biden and replace him with Sen. Hillary Clinton. I don't care how it's done. Campaign chief David Axelrod can figure that out. And the sooner the better. Because I'm starting to think that if Team-Obama doesn't do something dramatic fast, it's gonna lose this election. There's a worrisome shift in momentum and in the polls. The Palin phenomenon, while truly unfathomable to Democrats, has energized McCain's campaign and allowed him like Houdini to snatch Obama's "change" theme right out from under him. It's time to snatch it back.

VPs are no players.

Besides, the Dems already decided thay don't want Hill.

Is this some sort of joke, applecorped? If so, the subtleties escape me.

Wrong link above.

Now, anyone mentioned the so far mumbled-about-only-behind-sealed-doors possibility that in this coming Supreme Court draught Our Father Who Art in the White House could . . . would . . . might . . . nominate Biden to the bench? The idea being to get Hillary as VP. To shore up his poll numbers. Let nobody say he'd even throw Michelle under the bus so's to keep his government housing job. Let nobody say that. However, let somebody say that since his support has eroded with working-class Democrats, and that's Hillary country . . . is all I'm saying.

Is there any source for this other than Democratic Underground? They're the Freepers of the left.

EDIT: Ah, DU themselves link to where you got that verbatim paragraph from (and would it kill you to note that it was a quotation and not your own words?): buried inside a celebrity gossip column in the New York Post! That's even more dubious.

Is there any other source for this?

Democratic strategists say that if President Obama's re-election prospects look shaky, he could dump Vice President Joe Biden from the 2012 national ticket and choose Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate.

It's inside-Washington speculation at this point, but the strategists make a good case for such a shift. "Biden was named in the first place to shore up Obama on foreign policy issues, and Obama doesn't need that anymore," says a former Clinton adviser. That's because Obama has learned the ropes and has assembled a strong foreign policy and national security team including Robert Gates as defense secretary, Jim Jones as White House national security adviser, and Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Credence to speculation? Regardless, would it be a good idea? Would it help Obama in 2012?

Okay, to finally address your OP, why is this needed? And why such a rush? The election is still three years away, making panic reactions probably an extremely bad idea - even Reagan didn't have a stellar first year, and look where he ended his two terms. Plus, the core issues dogging Obama have nothing to do with Biden. He's not the focus of all the current controversy and dissatisfaction; Obama himself is. Replacing Biden still leaves Obama at the top of the ticket.

And even aside from the above, I don't exactly see how Hillary would help that. She's already in the administration, and is still a massively polarizing figure among non-Democrats (and even among a few Democrats). Putting her on the ticket won't really help Obama among the members of his own party (his Democratic approval ratings are something like 80-90%), and certainly won't get the votes of independents and Republicans.

EDIT: You're right; demanding sources for speculation is kinda pointless, so I've edited that out of my post here, and I apologize for that.

what is with all the Biden hate? He is only 5.97 trillion times more qualified to run as president than any president we've had for a long while

Shes in the best possible position: Away from those in the US who hate her, and in front of the rest of the world which loves her.

And I believe Hillary is enjoying her job very much, and plans to retire in 2017.

Umm... you seem to be ignorant of a little thing called the Constitution. The Vice President is elected. The President cannot dismiss him for ANY reason. The only legal method for removal of the Vice President before the end of his term is impeachment, which ain't gonna happen, and Obama can't do anyways.

Really? Didn't know that.

Not that it is gospel, but I always thought it was possible because of a West Wing episode in which senior staff are talking about replacing VP Hoynes with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It's usually remarkably accurate, but where they wrong on this?

Take it up with Cindy Adams, the person who wrote that.

p.s. can Obama appoint him to the Supreme Court, which was the premise of the second link?

When you quote someone else, you should use quotation marks. That's what they're for.

Obama can in principle nominate him if and when a vacancy appears, but he cannot appoint anyone. Biden would have no chance at a confirmation (unlike the vice presidency, a supreme court judgeship actually matters, so even democrats would balk at that), and he wouldn't have to accept it even if nominated.
