Shootings in Taiwan

I'm surprised nobody's said anything about the president and VP being shot the day before the election.

Information is, shall we say, very lacking, other than the original news report.

Thoughts?

Information?

(fnord! I can't change the title on the main page. Dyslexics of the world, UNTIE!)

I´m waiting for conspiracy theorists to claim that, since the president and vice president where only (relatively) lightly injured, they organized it themselves to garner sympathy to win the elections... :(

My money is 50/50 on either a lone crackpot or mainland china.

You didn't have to wait long:
"Conflicting early reports about the shooting, the timing of the incident, and the relatively light wounds suffered by Chen and Lu raised speculation around Taiwan that the event may have been staged to bolster support for Chen, who is was widely considered to be slightly trailing Lien going into election day."

You utter pack of bastards!
The first time in my life I scoop the board and am the first to start a thread about the attempted assasination of a president and you go and run another thread about it...Shame, shame, shame...

I've got to go with the lone crackpot. Mainland China can only lose by being behind such a crazy scheme.

That doesn´t mean they realize that.

By your logic, the Watergate burglary would never have happened, nor would the Clinton/Levinsky blow jobs, or evidence forgery concerning Iraq...the list goes on endlessly.

Write down 100 times: "People do not act rationally. At best, they act in a way they think is rational."

Ok how about if mianland China was behind it the two people would be dead.

Plus according to the article I linked to the gun seemed to be of bad quality, possibly homemade.

I see in the news that Chen won with a razor-thin majority, but that the contreversial referendum that Mainland China made such a fuss about did not have enough votes cast to be recognized (it appears the Taiwanese have the option of not voting on a referendum). Hmmmm, I wonder which regualr will be calling the Taiwanese appeasers first?

But the losing party has called for a recount--think we can loan the Taiwanese all those out-of-work Florida chad counters? :D

We all know that most people who rob gas stations in the USA manufacture their own guns from scratch. That explains why there are no longer any disputes relating to the right to own firearms vs. gun control.

On second thought, maybe we should check that information. Maybe gas station robbers don't manufacture their own guns from scratch because it would be too difficult for them and not worth the trouble. On the other hand, it might be worth the trouble for someone who doesn't want to allow for the weapon to be traced.

Just a thought.
