Reverend Sharpton showed back up yesterday for a 4-day weekend, participating in a number of meetings and vigils and such.
During one of these, he displayed his ignorance of the law, calling for the Brown case to be "turned over to federal prosecutors."

The Justice department is already investigating a possible civil-rights violation, but Sharpton wants the shooting incident itself handled by the feds.

Alas, this is not a federal offense, and must needs be handled by state-level authorities. The feds can't just take things over because Al wants it that way.

Things locally have been rather quiet for the last week and a half, fortunately. However, it's generally held that the grand jury will release it's findings in mid-November, and the excrement will hit the rotating blades.
We are all gearing up for the prospect of 12-hour shifts, and we are all being put through refresher crowd-control training and being issued new helmets, gas masks, and other such gear.

The WaPo is reporting that sources in the Justice Dept. are telling them there won't be federal civil rights charges either. Maybe they should coordinate with St. Louis County to make their "no charges" announcement on the same day so they have just one riot instead of 2.

As much as I distrust the state-level authorities, I do have to agree here. We're not discussing a federal offense here, and I don't think it's reasonable at this point to level civil rights charges against Wilson yet.

Just to confirm, the proceedings of the Grand Jury are secret... but after the findings we will be getting all the evidence that was presented to them, correct?

That's what they are reporting, yes. The entire grand jury presentation will be transparent.

Normally the grand jury proceeding remains secret other than an individual juror discussing their own individual vote (without disclosing evidence, witnesses or other members' vote.) Once the investigation is closed in the case of a no bill or acquittal the reports generated by police investigation becomes public record but what portion of that information was presented to the grand jury remains secret.

McCulloch (the county prosecutor) claimed when he announced his intention of presenting this case to a grand jury for investigation that he would petition the court supervising the grand jury to open the proceeding after it came to a decision. (That fact alone strongly suggests what the expected outcome must be -- there would be huge fair trial issues if a bill of indictment was returned and the state then started publicizing the proceedings.) The prosecutor has since reported that he has in fact petitioned the court and that the judge has agreed in principle to open the proceedings once they are complete. It's almost certain that witnesses and jurors will remain anonymous unless they agree to the publicity.

Rev. Al is, just as he has always been, a publicity seeking self aggrandizing POS and he never learns from it.

I wonder if the basket gets passed at his speeches?
