really? http://seti.berkeley.edu/kepler-seti-interference

Why are these signals interesting?

These signals look similar to what we think might be produced from an extraterrestrial technology. They are narrow in frequency, much narrower than would be produced by any known astrophysical phenomena, and they drift in frequency with time, as we would expect because of the doppler effect imposed by the relative motion of the transmitter and the receiving radio telescope.

Since a number of sources have the same quote as in the OP, I believe he quoted properly and the text at the link has since been edited.

If you're going to quote a source, it's considered standard (not to mention ethical) to indicate where you've made changes.

I definitely didn't change anything, it was straight cut n paste.

this must be it

My apologies, then.

In fact, I believe you are right, as they have this up there now:
Update: Friday, January 6, 2012 After posting the plots below on January 5, it became clear that we had not stated as definitively and absolutely as possible that these signals are interference. We have update the post to make this clear. Sorry for any confusion.

Sorry bout that :)

What?

Why is interference considered unintelligent?
What if aliens are punks?

UFOs are a dying hype, it is so obvious that no spacecraft are being witnessed approaching the earth from any direction.

The UFS (unidentified flying signals) are a more potent hype. Just record a signal, suspect that it comes from outer space, and theorize that it means something.

What you missed the first paragraph? :)

"We've started searching our Kepler SETI observations and our analyses have generated a few 'hits,' but all are undoubtedly examples of terrestrial radio frequency interference (RFI)."

I didnt miss it no, but I'm not an electronics expert or rocket scientist, I don't know my interference signal from my tractor beam.

the update paragraph and later added text to my quote make it a little clearer to read now.

so its definitely not an actual signal that got iNt£Rf3R3d with (by Space Catholic Priests or anything) then? :D

Damn those missleading headlines! You got me all excited for no reason.

I sorry, it somewhat roused me from my afternoon slumber too. I cant say i actually believed it, which is why I put it here so you lot could woowoo it to death.
