I think it was Logical Muse who first told me about these new-fangled servers that will let you upload your stuff and make it accessible to others for free.

What a wonderful thing.

Now, the limit (for free) is a gigabyte of storage, and a "bandwidth" of 10 gigs per month.

I've noticed that my bandwidth usage is up to 95%. I'm not sure what this means. When I was the only one accessing my box, I was only using 1%.

My question: Does the bandwidth get reset every 30 days? At the beginning of the month?

How do these here free server-thingies work?

I would ask the admins of the Box.net site, but I'm not sure how to do that.

eta: If I could edit the title of this thread, it would read: Servers (like Box.net) and "bandwidth"

(this will probably be a 2-post thread, if someone knows the answer.)

Allright, I'm an idiot. I didn't see that.

Thread's over, folks.
Thanks, RC.

(still, I thought there might be some standard well-known definition of bandwidth usage in this case, so it was worth asking here.)

and the answer (via Bombay, or wherever): bandwidth is reset on the first of every month.

Why yes, yes it was. toot-toot! :D

thank you.

you've changed my life for the better.

sometimes, I require a little push from others to get over some recalcitrance, some persistent ignorance.

I think these storage-server thingies are very cool.

I can share my stuff with a microtonal user's group I'm on, other people as well. They can access the stuff without me breathing down their necks, wondering what they think.

Mp3 turns out to be ok, but if it weren't, I can upload in some other file format.

Should I get back into film-scoring, I could work with a producer anywhere, without Fedex.

Sometimes, technology makes life better.
