As you may have seen in our newsletter, Sense About Science is putting together an online resource to highlight the support that evidence-based medicine enjoys in our society today. We feel the promotion of evidence based medicine has lost public momentum and want to restate the case for it . I’m writing to you because you were part of the overwhelming response to our work on the MHRA licensing of homeopathy products and we really want to capture this support and give EBM a stronger public presence by communicating more widely the relevance and importance of evidence-based medicine to public health. I would love to have your comments on why evidence based medicine matters to you, both personally and professionally, and any particular examples you may have to highlight this.
The statements will be presented on a website developed as a forum which will be launched in October, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Medicines Act and it will contain statements from people working in research and industry, patient groups, national press, parliamentarians, scientists, journal editors, and so on.
It would be great to get your thoughts on this and I wondered if you could email me a few lines? I’m hoping to collect all statements by the middle of September.
