Senator's Office Says It Arranged Meeting Space Used for Rev. Moon Meeting
Tue Jul 20 2004 21:15:58 ET

The WASHINGTON POST's Charles Babington is set to report in Wednesday runs:

Sen. John W. Warner's office acknowledged late Tuesday that the Virginia Republican arranged for religious activists to use a Senate office building last March for a ceremony in which the Rev. Sun Myung Moon declared himself the Messiah and said his teachings have helped Hitler and Stalin be "reborn as new persons."
I liked Warner. Dumb, really dumb.

To be fair, he (or his staff) apparently arranged for the use of the office by the Washington Times, not by The New Messiah.

"A spokesperson for Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi, the committee chairman, said staff members were examining the application, filed in the name of The Washington Times Foundation, to see if there were any violations of Senate rules."

On the other hand, other members of Congress on both sides of the aisle apparently went above and beyond in their participation.

"One congressman involved, Danny Davis from Illinois, even wore white gloves and carried a pillow holding one of two ornate gold crowns that were placed on the heads of The Messiah and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, at the ceremony.
... The initial invitation, sent to all members of Congress, stated that Mr. Moon and his wife would also be present and honored for their work. But follow-up letters mentioned only the peace foundation and simply told lawmakers who from their states was being honored.

Representative Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland was there, too, and commented:

'I remember the king and queen thing, but … I had no idea what he was king of.'

... Some of the others, like Senator Mark Dayton of Minnesota, insisted they were duped and had no idea that the organization holding the reception was connected to Mr. Moon."

You have generals who see satan flying over somalia, and messiah's being crowned in the US senate buildings.

Have the lunatics taken over the asylum?
No, but I'm sure it gets your heart thumping just thinking about it.

Patton thought he was reincarnated, he managed to kick Rommel's ass not withstanding.

We are a nation of humans. Many of those humans have irrational beliefs. You make the mistake that many others have made throughout our history and judge us by a few dumb statements of some of our leaders. You underestimate us and that is fine. As long as we don't overestimate ourselves we will be in the same position in another 200 years. But by all means, you keep dreaming of our downfall. I realize how important it is to your world view.

Belief in reincarnation is a pretty harmless belief. The guy in charge of chasing down Osama believes he sees Satan in a blurry picture taken over Somalia. Carlos was banned from JREF for seeing similar things in blurry pictures. As I said, it used to be the logic of MAD that no one would start a nuclear war, because they wouldn't want the consuqences, that is, devestation of the world.

The fundies in the whitehouse want armageddon, it means they get to worship jesus for the rest of eternity. They want the consequences of devestation. Or at least, they will until they realise jesus won't really materialise on a white cloud. By then it will be too late.

I am not worried about your downfall. I am worried about idiots in the US causing mayhem in the rest of the world.

They seem to be doing a pretty good job of it at the moment.

I absolutely loathe Warner. The man is arrogant, self righteous and just plain rude. He was one of the Senators who voted not to fund the counting of DC's vote for medical marijuana.

Now get this...DC residents got the MM resolution onto the ballot by way of an overwhelming number of petitions by DC residents. But in an egregious subversion of democracy anti MM Senators... men not even FROM DC...decided they would not FUND the few hundred dollars it would take to merely COUNT the vote!!!

Now, I'm no saint...but also no druggie either. I'm not at all certain the MM movement is a good thing....but hey....this is a democracy and those people voted...!!!

So I wrote a sternly worded letter to John Warner since he's my Senator and I actuall voted for the @#$%!....he promptly wrote me back and clearly inferred I was some kind of anti-American druggie....ME!!?? God what a d**khead! It's not a great revelation that he's in bed with that Korean freak.

I guess you don't know enough about Patton. Read up, his ideas about who he was were no less benign than the guy who saw satan.

Rhetorical, there is no evidence that George Bush et all want Armageddon. Your claims simply reduce you to a shrill Henny Penny.

I would ask you for evidence but I could do a google search for conspiracy theory on my own and we both know you can't prove your claims. You see I have read about the Jews and the tri-lateral commission. I know the one about the IRS and the Masons {wink, wink, nudge, nudge} Next you will be talking about connecting dots as all good little conspiracy theorists talk about.

You will forgive me if I don't buy into your hysteria.

Don't wait to derail the thread, but that charlatan Jerry Falwell has taken millions from the "messiah".
