The guest for Prime Time Radio today (Aug 2) is an author who has tracked the self-help industry for decades. He's really showing it for the bs it is. It's like Penn & Teller on the radio. You can check here to see when the show is archived.

such a confusing thread title. I assume now that you mean 'rapped'?

' Self-Help ' , is not BS.. Someone helping you with your self-help is..

Hint: When someone helps you with your self-help; guess what? It ain't ....

Nike came up with self-help to end all self-help a long time ago..

Flaherty, the title of this thread looks like an egregious typo.

Please contact a moderator and ask that it be corrected to what you really meant.

Before buying any non-fiction book check for the following
1. The biography of the author. Do they have suitable qualifications and experience?
2. A good index. So, you can look up any relevant fact.
3. References (may be called other things). How did the author get the facts? What research did they do?
4. Most of the book is text rather than pictures.

If the book lacks any of the above then do not buy it. The book is unlikely to be any good. Very few self-help books will pass the above test.

Don't even buy. Go to the library and talk to a *gasp* librarian. We take training in how to recommend books and what to look for.
