Maybe this is more for Social issues and current events, if so please move it.

In a unanimous decision by the Supreme Court today, the eight justices ruled in favor of revoking the Church of Scientology’s tax-exempt status in the United States. Under the ruling, Scientology will still be able to operate as a business but no longer as a non-profit religious organization.

The case was brought forward by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division after concluding a two-year-long investigation into the inner workings of Scientology. The investigation, along with an extensive audit, found the group to be a “criminal operation with a sole purpose of making money”. The eight justices agreed with the IRS and its findings that Scientology was neither a religion or fell under the guidelines of a non-profit charitable organization...

It's been a long time coming. I wonder how Tom Cruise will take this news...

ETA: Damn! That will teach me for not paying attention to little details like when the story was published... That was from March last year and the decision was overturned in April. Oh well, I was a bit too excited there for a moment...

Mr. Cruise will recognize that as a fake news site. Because he's like level 8 or something.

Pro tip: Look at the end of the URL for the domain. In this case .co for Colombia. The abcnews.com part is a subdomain.

Did you read to the end?

No, I suppose I need to now....

Edited to delete my post. First I didn't read past the headline, then I only read the end. Now I have read enough to see there were clearly fake news clues.

How did you come across that article? Just curious.

No idea about brainache, but it was trending on facebook this morning. So, somebody is pushing it. Also trending was the "Obama awards himself distinguished service medal".

So, clearly facebook's announced fight against fake news is... winning?

Ah, I see. I don't use Facebook.

Yeah. One of my friends posted it on Facebook. I got over excited. Oops.

I first saw the story here in the OP, but I knew it was fake news as soon as I read it. It's about the Supreme Court doing something the Supreme Court doesn't do (and unanimously, no less). It was about as plausible as a story about the College of Cardinals overturning a ref's call during the Super Bowl.

It's a little mean to toot your own horn here in a thread where some people were briefly suckered.
