Scientology beat dyslexia: Cruise
From correspondents in New York
July 12, 2003

SCIENTOLOGY rescued Tom Cruise from life as a "functional illiterate" by providing tools to cope with his dyslexia, the actor tells People magazine in its latest issue.
...
The same year, a friend gave Cruise a picture book on The US Church of Scientology, founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

Hubbard's learning method of "Study Technology" was a revelation for the actor.

"Everything fell into place," Cruise said. "Many people had tried to teach me, but no-one had taught me how to learn or how to study."
Does it seem odd that they don't name those "correspondents in New York"?

if he was "funcationally illiterate", how did he read all of those scpripts? unless, of course, the Bavarian Illuminati hired a script reader for him.

Cruise is a staunch defender of the Church of Scientology. I don't doubt that he claimed it cured his dyslexia.

Here is a critical analysis of Hubbard's "Study Technology." Apparently it boils down to a few simplistic principles pressed into the service of religious indoctrination.

That's a little odd, as Mr.Cruise is held up as a poster child for dyslexia and he admits he needs help to study and learn his scripts. I should know as my daughter is a severe dyslexic. Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie is a severe dyslexic, unless of course the Kaballah has "cured" him. Laura Flynn Boyle used to go to auditions, then pretend she was ill, taking the script with her. She would then have someone help her learn it, and show up again to audition when she was "well". She is now very open about her dyslexia. If my daughter has to study Mr.Hubbard to learn to read, forget it, she can be a happy illiterate. What Tom Cruise says is an insult to the children with dyslexia, who have to work hard and study and tutor even during the summer vacation (I never hear the end of it....).

One good apple in the barrel won't make the rest fresh. This is an oft-used fallacy (I don't know it it has a name): Find an example of something good and claim that it validates the rest. Here, that Hubbard designed a valid course that can help dyslexics, thus everything he made must be good. Not so at all! Even if he DID make a good course for dyslexics, it does not validate ONE WORD of whatever else he wrote.

And, it seems his course was not that terrific  . It must be remembered, though, that dyslexia is many things. Some functional illiterates only have a fairly slight reading impediment, they were just let down in school. For those, ANY teaching that make them believe in themselves will virtually do miracles. Others have graver problems.

Only someone who did not see Mission Impossible 2 would say that.

On that note, is Tom Cruise going to be in Battlefield Earth 2 ?

Strictly speaking, the movie only covers the first half of the book...so there actually could be a Battlefield Earth 2.

Goes to show that you could be rich, good looking, successful and stupid all at the same time.

I was talking in the theoretical, "there does exist enough material to base another movie off of," sense. Not in the practical, "no one in their right or wrong mind would be willing to produce another Battlefield Earth movie," sense.
