While what he did was wrong and has been found out by his professional body - how curious that anti-psychiatry Scientologists should be instrumental in undermining a psychiatrist with such a very public profile in the UK.

It emerged that the matter was originally brought to the General Medical Council’s attention by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, an organisation founded by senior members of the Scientology movement, who are known to be hostile aspect (sic) of psychiatry

From what I've heard, it was only a matter of time - he was exceedingly incautious about his plagiarism, and did it to lots of people. He was going to get caught, and deserved to do so.

I despise CCHR and the Co$ and their vendetta against all psychiatrists, but it's tough to disagree with them on this one case. You can't steal other people's work and expect to get away with it.

Now, back to doing everything in my power (FWIW) to stick it to Scientology.

There was no doubt in this particular case. Persaud is a very prominent media figure and from my point of view did his profession no good service, unlike his predecessor, Anthony Clare (sp?). I am surprised at this though. I heard on the radio today that he lifted a huge swathe from the work of the Professor of Clinical Psychology at Bangor: and then sent him a copy of the book. Hubris? I think so
