I was using a different forum, and the topic in one thread was Derren Brown and the zombie show, much like here. It is amazing, however, what a different approach the believers are taking to the episode, from what I see here.

Anyway, one person made a comment that they hate all hypnotists because of an incident with their aunt. The aunt was on holiday nd went to a stage show. The psychic was supposed to hypnotise one member of the audience, but accidentally hypnotised 6 people around her, including this person's aunt. The aunt was mightily humiliated... etc and still has nightmares.

Now, I guess this is the best place to ask - is accidental hypnosis possible? Can a hypnotist actually 'zap' a group of people in one go?

I have 2 personal experiences with hypnotists - one of them a stage performer who was unable to hypnotise me. He needed to spend about 15 mins with each person he did hypnotise after the show to 'de-program' them or something, but when hypnostising them/us had to speak to each person individually - admittedly through a mic system, but I certainly didn't see how he could have 'accidentally' hypnostised someone. Unless that person desperately wanted to get up there, perhaps.

My other experience was when Paul McKenna came to where I worked to collect some items. I suddenly found myself alone in the office, and dealt with him personally along with our manager - because the other girls refused to be inthe same room or have any cause to look him in the face - 'just in case'. I found that quite amusing.

Well, first you need to convince me that there is anything in hypnosis in the first place, then I might be able to determine whether it's possible to "accidentally" hypnotise someone.

But from what little I understand of hypnosis, it consists of focusing a person's attention. I can accept that it may be quite possible for a bystander to become focused as well as the person the hypnotist is working with.
