Prominent Saudi religious scholars urged Iraqis to support militants waging holy war against the U.S.-led coalition forces..... The clerics issued a fatwa, or religious edict, prohibiting Iraqis from offering any support for military operations carried out by U.S. forces against insurgent strongholds.... The scholars said inter-Iraqi fighting would cause "great damage to the Iraqis and give a free service to the Jews who are infiltrating into Iraq and to the coalition forces which exploit differences to consolidate their domination."

Oh what's the point? Would any amount of rational discussion change a single mind?

Religion is the crux of hatred, racism, and unending violence in the region. It is almost darkly amusing that it got so bad it attracted new (and better armed) religious fanatics to the region to save everyone.

The tragedy is that the entire region is probably about to spiral into a larger abyss, introducing chemical or nuclear weapons. Until people see these 'holy men' for what they are the daily tragedy will continue.

The sad thing is that at the end of it all, amid all the ruins, there will be no great hero descending from the sky to save the world and welcome in a new age of peace.

Only destroyed lands, economies, and cities. Maybe it will end then, but I am not hopeful.

Oh I forgot, things are actually going very well and I should not believe all the anti-Bush propaganda.

1/ They are on a crusade?
2/ They have nothing better to do?
3/ They have been told to do it?
4/ They have a disease that makes them do it?
5/ They just don't care for Muslims, Muslim groups, muslim countries or Islam?
6/ They like making unsubstantiated claims about other people?
7/ Ity's always wet where they live?
8/ They think they're winning against the forces of evil?
9/ They're an axis of their very own?
10/ The gates of their institution only opens for 1 hour during the morning and they've not found the exit yet?
11/ The JREF is a collective source of all ungodliness?
12/ They're just good ol' boys who want to save the world from 11/

It's less that than the fact that there are some that have not gotten it thru their heads yet that the wars between Islam and largely christian europe are not over yet.

I've said from the beginning that Saudi Arabia is 100 times a bigger national security threat than Iraq. We invaded Iraq because Saddam might have WMD, and if he does have them he might give them to terrorists. Instead, we should have dealt with Saudi Arabia.

I am all for sharing knowledge or debate. The problem as I see it is that you have two camps at JREF when it comes to the Middle East.

One camp uses Chomsky-ish rationalizations, the Guardian newspaper and Electronic Intifada/Stormfront articles to promote their disinformation. While the other camp continually is debunking that disinformation.

Can I simply say I'm not surprised by the story? Because I'm not. Not by the anti-semitism, not by the "holy war" b.s.

Seriously, we need to just remove all the people from the Middle East. If you can't share with other people, you shouldn't freaking have it. They're like pre-schoolers with their lack of empathy and their "mine, mine, mine"... except they have guns and knives and bombs and more bloody fundamentalists.

ETA: Just to be clear, that last paragraph refers to Israel also. Screw your holy land if you can't accept that it's the Holy Land of two other major world religions. Screw the "Five Jew Bankers." Screw the "All Arabs Want to Kill Jews."
