I am starting to think the whole Saudi elections thing is just a front for the PR campaign to rehabilitate Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Authorities Delay Elections Again - Sun Sep 12, 2004
CAIRO, Egypt - Saudi Arabia's government has postponed nationwide municipal elections, the first such polls in decades, for a second time and rescheduled them to begin in February, Saudi newspapers reported Sunday.

The Saudi government first announced that voting would begin in September. It then was delayed until November to avoid conflicting with the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which begins in mid-October.
Ahhh, one would think that even the Saudis would know when Ramadan is... ;) ...and not schedule elections then...call me crazy...

And in other news...

Security Guards Beheaded in Saudi Arabia - Sep 12, 2004
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Three Saudi security guards were beheaded in northern Saudi Arabia on Sunday after being convicted of trafficking hashish and using government vehicles to transport the drug, the Interior Ministry said.

They were beheaded in the northern border city of Arar, according to the Interior Ministry statement, carried by the official Saudi Press Agency. Sunday's executions brings to 13 the number of people executed here this year. Last year at least 52 people, mostly drug smugglers, were beheaded.
