The rampage, dubbed "Santarchy," began early Saturday afternoon when the men, wearing ill-fitting Santa costumes, threw beer bottles and urinated on cars from an overpass, said Auckland Central Police spokesman Noreen Hegarty.
I realize a few people were injured in all of this and people were ripped off as well, but this story made me chuckle a bit.

Hey,

It made me laugh too! I'm just wondering why Faux News would report it at all - this seems to be a militant fringe of the same movement endorsed by Hannity & O'Reilly although I may be mistaken - Hannity & O'Reilly want commercialism put BACK INTO X-mas - whereas the Santarchy want it taken out.

I wonder if we could import them to the U.S. and let them have a go in Faux News studios?

BTW - I nearly choked on my coffee when I read this:

One man climbed the mooring line of a cruise ship before being ordered down by the captain. Other Santas, objecting when the man was arrested, attacked security staff, Hegarty said.

The remaining Santas entered a downtown convenience store and carried off beer and soft drinks.

"They came in, said 'Merry Christmas' and then helped themselves," store owner Changa Manakynda said.

Alex Dyer, a spokesman for the group, said Santarchy was a worldwide movement designed to protest the commercialization of Christmas.

What's not to love about Santa?

In this story, Dyer says something different.
Alex Dyer, who organised the Santa spree, explained the antics as a group of men who liked having a drink and a laugh.

"It doesn't mean anything and it's not against anyone. It's just having fun. That's what life's about."

While Mr Dyer did not condone illegal behaviour, he washed his hands of any responsibility.

"I can't physically restrain people from doing stupid things. I can't say, 'okay 50 drunk men, all listen to me: Please, nobody do anything stupid'.

"If someone does something stupid and gets caught for it, that's their problem."

He said Saturday was not an anti-commercialisation protest.
