CONTROVERSIAL Sydney lawyer John Marsden yesterday accepted the toughest brief of his legal career – defending the deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Mr Marsden, best known for defending backpacker killer Ivan Milat, said he accepted the job because "every person is entitled to a lawyer".

He will join a 20-strong international law team recruited by Saddam's British-based lawyer Giovanni di Stefano.

Marsden to act as lawyer for Saddam

I wonder if Geoffrey Robertson will join the prosecution team.

Hmmmm. Milat is in gaol for life now, with no parole. Do you think Saddam should start thinking about who his cell-mate might be and what they might want to do to him?

The choice of an openly gay lawyer is an interesting one given that Saddam is most likely to be tried in a Muslim nation.

We probably won't be hearing much from "A Unique Person" for a while in this forum, then.
