I would have SWORN I've heard of a hydrogen/silicon based superconductor before.

Recently on this forum on a previous near room-temperature super-conductor, I was told that I had misremembered that months earlier a substance like this had been discovered.

Don't worry, I'm not posting this as some kind of 'told you so' post, and I have nothing against those who said that I misremembered what I saw.

I just want to make sure that people are aware of the matter. Which is why I raised it...

A Canadian-German research team has reported what they say is the first evidence that superconductivity can occur in a common gaseous hydrogen compound -- silane -- when compressed to a solid at very high pressure.

The finding, first published in the journal Science, promises to advance the design of more efficient superconducting materials that could be used for a variety of applications, the researchers said.

"Our research in this area is aimed at improving the critical temperature for superconductivity so that new superconductors can be operated at higher temperatures," said John Tse, Canada Research Chair in Materials Science at the University of Saskatchewan.

I'm not sure what the original version said, but apparently there were errors in the story. The current version says nothing about this material superconducting at room temperature.

The search query I looked into was

+"room temperature superconductor"+"hydrogen"+"silicon"

on Google?

Google bases search results partly on contents of pages that link to the search results. You trust Google too much if you assume the contents of a search result match your expectation.

Ziggurat,

I can't really argue with that.

BTW: Silane is *not* a room-temperature superconductor?

Not even close. The actual peer reviewed article this story was based upon, which you can find here, mentions a Tc of 17 Kelvin (under 96 GPa pressure).
