Rock Band

Nicely done :).

I've had a bit of schizophrenia with Rock Band. Have 3 solo tours going with Guitar, drums and singing, so its taking me a while. But I've decided to at least finish it on drums first.

Plus I keep getting distracted when people come over to play multi-player :). Really fun game.
 
This game is most fun with a full band, preferably with a seven year old lead singer.

The only thing I don't like is the way the drum overload (overdrive? oversomething anyway) is handled. Since there are no style points during this time, it behooves the drummer to just cram in as many beats as possible, keeping time be damned. Put a guitar in my hand and I want to follow the drummer. It's almost an instinct. I can't tell you how many times this has screwed me up.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Since my friends are barely able to keep time even with the regular drum notes, I've learned to tune them out so it doesn't mess me up.
 
Whoa! When he went "clack, clack, clack" at the 3:04 mark...awesome!

Rock Band and Guitar Hero are two of the best video games ever made but to watch someone play it on YouTube...I find it funny.

Actually, I find people practicing it funny too. I bought GH3 when it first came out and I've played it once or twice. But I've played it plenty of times with friends at their homes (we had about a dozen people playing it New Year's Eve). To me, that's when it's fun. To goof around with friends (like karaoke).

Someone on the JREF forum (and Stan's dad) once said this and got reamed for it but I kinda agree...if you're going to spend a ton of time mastering a song on Guitar Hero why don't you actually learn how to play it on a real guitar?

It took me about 3-4 hours to learn to play Freebird on Expert. To play Freebird on a real guitar would take... how long?

I didn't think you got more points for the "fill" hits. You just need a few to activate the green note for the trigger. Verify this, then complain at any drummer who messes you up this way. :)

I like what was linked... but I want to embellish... it serves two different goals.

Video games allow you the sensation of being more competent at something fun or exciting. With only a little practice you can gain enjoyment from pretending to be a special forces soldier, a flying dragon, or a kung fu master, or some bizarre abstraction. Why not a guitar player?

Actually playing an instrument is just a different calling and requires a far more serious commitment.
