Anyone here following his researches? He apparently linked most major news events including 9/11 and the Iraq war, and most NASA launches and special events to star alignments... as if those were staged somehow. I visited his site but there's pages and pages of stuff to read so I won't go into it unless it's worth it.

Anyone knows if it's worth checking out?

The name Richard Hoagland comes up from time to time at the Bad Astronomy board (generally followed by a communal groan). He's a big proponent of the "Face on Mars" as evidence of ancient Martian civilization. He claims to have discovered a whole new branch of mathematics based on the geometric relationships of various hills and terrain features (architectural features according to him) near the "face". He also claims to have discovered vast glass domes on the moon.

His screeds mainly consist of a lot of bad psuedo science liberally spiced with a lot personal ego stroking and claims about the ongoing NASA conspiracy to conceal The Truth (tm). He has a devoted following of conspiracy nuts. In short, he's the very model of a classic internet crank.

Let's not forget, Jedi Knight was a big Hoagland fan. Personally, I think Hoagland may be a person who has gone from self-delusion to lost soul. He most likely honestly believed there was a face on mars at one time. After that it became easy to point out other shapes on mars and find things they resembled. However, the face on mars was the most startling. Years later we know the face is nothing of the sort. We have much higher resolution photographs that prove him undeniably wrong. However, this sort of speculation has become has income mainstay. Hoagland now faces losing his profession by admitting he is wrong.

Yes, in the past few years he has gotten even wackier and moved into other areas of wackiness. I think he is probably diversifying his "art bell portfolio" so he won't become irrelevant when his face on mars schtick loses all its steam.

Every world event seems to have a connection to some ancient alien civilization to him I started this thread for amusement but it turned into a debate with Jedi and the rest of the JREF forum members.
Baghdad/Mars connection

I guess the fact that the man's getting almost zero public attention means he's not onto something. Some of the stuff is at least intriguing tho.
