Here's a recent TV debate between Richard Dawkins vs Australian Catholic Archbishop Cardinal George Pell. I only half watched it and don't think it's particularly interesting as these things go - just more of the same really. It might only be available for a few days. Sorry if it's already been posted.

I never think these 'debates' are fun for everyone, but don't really achieve anything, but I just heard a breakfast radio interview with Richard Dawkins and he said that as a result of this show someone had said they'd renounced their Catholisism (and become an atheist I think too - I was only half listening again), so I stand corrected.

Richard seems a bit irritable in this debate.

"WHY IS THAT FUNNY?" I laughed.

Who heard the Cardinal say that Atheists can go to heaven.
As long as you are good.
Well, am I sooooo relieved

What an admission from the chief minister of woo in the Roman Catholic Church of Australia.
Why would you bother with church.
Why bother giving your hard earned to the church.
Why bother dodging the kiddy fiddlers when you can avoid them outright by not going to a religious school at all.
Just be an Atheist, a good one mind you, and go directly to heaven do not pass a church do not pay any money to the church.
But what I would like to know is what heaven will I go to?
The one with all of those virgins waiting for you. Or the one where you sit on clouds playing the harp with Mary Whitehouse and Fred Nile (insert your favourite Christian fundy).

Sorry, he's Archbishop of Sydney not Australia. I don't think there is an Archbishop of Australia. My mistake. He's quite high-profile nationally though.
