Ok, so it's a cheap shot. However, you aren't supposed to take 'thousands' literally. More like hundreds of errors.

One day after Condoleezza Rice said the United States made possibly "thousands" of tactical mistakes in the war against Iraq, the secretary of state says she was speaking "figuratively, not literally."

She's pretty bright, bound to slip up once in a while.

"Well, it's more than one".

"OK, Condie...name two."

"Now, let's not be nitpicky...."

Tactical mistakes? Who cares?! There are BEARS wandering the wilderness.

Guys, guys, guys, guys. This is the kind of discussion the terrorists want to have take place. Continuing on only means they win. It's like Bush says, this stuff can be puzzled over 20-30 years from now. We just have to get behind our commander and chief (that includes you Australia), giving him all the support he needs. C'mon, I know this message will reasonate with the real heroes out there.

Name one government that has not made "thousands of tactical mistakes in a war". Anyone?

Hi, everbody! Welcome to the "No Perfect Solution" Logical Fallacy Show, where you make a comment about something, and your host responds with an irrevelvant appeal to perfection.

The governement og Luxenburg (sp?) for one, I doubt the governements of the Vatican or Monarco has either, probably not Sweden or Norway either, I could go on.

The government of Palau (one of the coalition of the dwindling). I don't think they've ever made thousands of tactical mistakes in a war. :)

Just like the response after the State of the Union address:

One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.

I've had sex with thousands of women. Well, figuratively anyways.

Condoleeza Rice (the lying Secretary of State, not the oil tanker):

"I know we've made tactical errors, thousands of them, I'm sure," she said. "But when you look back in history what will be judged on is" whether the "right strategic decision" was made.

Very true. Historical words; Ms Rice stands on the shoulders of giants:

"This could have gone that way, or that could have gone this way," said Pope Urban II, adding that the Rome-led invasion was "the right strategic decision".

"This could have gone that way, or that could have gone this way," said Mr. Khan, adding that the Mongol-led invasion was "the right strategic decision".

"This could have gone that way, or that could have gone this way," said Mr. Bonaparte, adding that the France-led invasion was "the right strategic decision".

"This could have gone that way, or that could have gone this way," said Mr Hitler, adding that the German-led invasion was "the right strategic decision".

"This could have gone that way, or that could have gone this way," said Ms Rice, adding that the US-led invasion was "the right strategic decision".

Of course it was.

In my performance review, I told my boss I'd improve my client retention by 75% this year. Come review time next year, I'm sure he'll realize that I was merely "dramatiz(ing) the issue in a way that every American" would undertsand.*

*Thanks for the link, zakur! :)
