What do you predict it will be?

I'm hearing Romney/Rubio. Would make sense. Personable, young, a tea party favourite, carries Florida and eats into a demographic that the Republicans have difficulty with. That's Rubio, not Romney.

Romney damages the appeal to white Evangelicals that offset the Hispanic Rubio.

The ticket has no appeal outside of the traditional base of the GOP.

I'm pretty certain it's going to be Romney, but the running-mate issue is going to be interesting. I actually think Cain is a good bet, as he is a powerful draw to the right and not completely bat-**** crazy like Bachmann or Santorum. I'm sure he'd love Christie, but that probably ain't gonna happen.

I'm guessing the Repubs learned their lesson with Sarah Palin and won't be going for a stealth candidate without vetting them thoroughly. Besides, Romney is a whole lot smarter than John McCain.

I suppose it is possible that disenchantment might lead to a Cain or even Perry nominee, but if they do that, the GOP is toast. Burnt toast.

They might do worse than Romney/Huckabee. The latter compliments the stiff and awkward Romney.

Cain not crazy? His economic ideas, which are after all what matters most, seem even worse than what I've heard from any of the other Republicans.

His proposals are simplistic and unworkable, but not crazy. In fact, the clever part is that he knows that Americans crave simplicity. He's not Santorum with his rabid homophobia or Ron Paul with his Libertopia or Bachmann with her... well... pick one. He's a salesman. He's got a clever slogan for his product. It is working to increase his "sales".

And all that is why he makes an interesting choice for Veep. The Vice President doesn't have any real powers. His job is mostly sales, i.e. selling the administration policies to the people. That's why the GOP has picked attractive unknowns like Palin and Quayle, because they thought a pretty face would be good marketing. What they really need is a salesman, not a pretty face, and Cain fits the bill.

After asll the grumbling I heard from some of the rightwing blathermeisters about Obama's being an "angry black man," it seems that that might be something that could be turned agaisnt Cain.

Dude looks angry under normal circumstances. I can't see him turning it into a joke the way that Obama does.

He's as likeable as a pit bull with a hangover.

Romney/Christie or maybe Romney/Pawlenty.

Unless Rubio was recently lying, there will be no ___/Rubio on any ticket.

Maybe Palin will change her mind yet again and agree to make a second go in the number2 spot. Then she could drop out midway through the campaign, leaving Romney to run without a veep.

Christie has been pretty adamant multiple times as not in the running for president. It would seem a stretch for him to agree to VP. Rubio has made one clear statement that I know of that he won't be on the ticket, but that could change.

Isn't pretty rare for the party's candidate to pick one of the other candidates that he was running against to be VP?

I thought Pawlenty going to help Romney's campaign after he dropped out was pretty telling.

I agree Cain would be much better suited as a VP as opposed to the President.

The GOP seems to have a recent strategy of requiring a woman or person of ethnicity on the ticket, to mitigate their Old White Guy image.

So I think the VP will be either a Palin or Cain.
