Rep. Christopher Lee , a New York Republican, has resigned after reports surfaced that the married congressman was trying to meet women on Craigslist, according to a GOP source with direct knowledge of the matter.

The guy was stupid enough to post his picture on Craigslist without blurring out his face.

Correction: He may have e-mailed the photo, rather than posting it on Craigslist. Still pretty stupid.

He also used the same email address that was on his public facebook profile.

Anyway, I think he should have apologized and moved on with his life--this isn't resignation-worthy material, in my opinion.

Is it wrong that I'm a liberal and think he shouldn't have resigned?

If I were one of his constituents I would want him out because of the stupidity factor. I would not want somebody that stupid representing me.
Going on Craigslist......that is felony stupid.

Me too.

Stupid because he's a congresscritter or stupid for anybody?

After Dracula and Saruman maybe a Republican is a role too far.

Don't forget Pistols Scaramanga....

Glad that Lee the actor is getting a lifetime acheivement award from BAFTA (the British Oscar equivilent). He deserves it.

Damn I forgot three nipples Scaramanga.

So, the first thing you do upon arriving in Washington to assume your newly-elected position....Is put yourself up on Craigslist?
"Don't work too hard solving the nation's problems while you're in Washington, dear."

"Ah, don't worry, darling. I'll budget my time for some recreation...."

Lee, who is married and has a son, resigned after the website Gawker published an item reporting he corresponded with a woman who posted a Craigslist ad and allegedly sent her a bare-chested photo of himself.

I'd have commented on how unlucky he was to contact the one woman on Craigslist who wasn't really a hooker but NY politicians don't exactly have the best track record of finding prostitutes that use discretion. :p

Not even a nude pic? These "scandals" are getting pretty lame. Hardly worth resigning over. I just saw on CNN "Rep. Lee resigns in shame". Shame? Really? This is slightly embarrassing and if anything a personal issue between him and his wife. Yeah he was stupid to do it but this is an over-reaction. In congress we have numerous crooks who spend decades there yet some airhead who sent a shirtless pic to some random woman on craigslist trying to get some side nookie resigns?

Seriously, if stupidity were legitimate grounds for disqualifying individuals from serving in congress, we'd have a hard time ever filling the 535 seats!

A Republican cheating on his family with a woman? He should not have resigned. It is early into his term, so resigning could make sense, but doesn't this mean the Democrat governor fills his seat?

I don't get why anyone thinks this is newsworthy, much less resignation-worthy.

His resignation will trigger a special election in a district Arizona Sen. John McCain won with 52 percent of the vote in 2008.

The power to call the special election falls to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). There is no set deadline for a special election to be called but once it is called, it must be held between 30 and 40 days after that date.

Then-Gov. David Paterson (D) exploited this loophole so the state would not have to hold a separate special election to replace Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) after Massa's resignation in March. Paterson simply refused to call for the special election and then later set it for the same day as the November general election.
