can anybody tell me some good skeptic authors that steer mostly towards religion, and their books. I would love to read up on the subject of religion from a point of view that isn't "cause god said so, it's in the bible"

It's unlikely you will find a good one. The only rational conclusion to derive is that god doesn't exist/ there's no reason to believe a god exists.

I know that. I just want to increase my knowledge on the subject so that I can debate better with people whenever they disagree with me. Of course there is no evidence to FULLY prove my point, I know there is plenty to show that no god, makes more sense than a god existing. I also want to be able to stand up for my belief when confronted about the subject.

Clarification please. Are you asking for skeptic authors that deal with religion from a skeptical viewpoint or skeptic authors who both deal with religion and conclude that religion and belief in god are justified. Thanks!:)

Well the only skeptical author with this view that comes to mind is Martin Gardner ... but his logical reasons are wanting; preferring to believe because it is comforting not based on evidence. Additionally, I don't think he has any specific books dedicated to the subject. If you care to read material that would provide you with strong arguments against the literal nature of the bible, I would suggest Randall Helms, Who Wrote the Gospels and Tim Callahan's Secret Origins of the Bible. The main reason I would suggest these for you specifically, is so you can get a good grasp of what you are up against. ;) Also good in this vain is a review of the various forms of logical fallacy that, if you use them will undermine your argument with a well oiled skeptic.

I'm glad he doesn't. He'd be laughed out of the club.

ok guys. Sorry. I'll try to make this more specific.
A skeptic author, who speaks about religion, and leans towards NO GOD. What I am looking to do is learn MORE evidence and logic, to increase my knowledge on this subject of no god. Because I don't believe in a god, but sometimes when comfronted, I can't justify my point well, because I can't show the flaws in what others say.
I just want to learn more evidence that shows a god, or at least a god such as the christians beleive, isn't logical to beleive in.

Analyzing flaws is all well and good, but it sounds to me like you are rationalizing your already preconcieved decision.

Now, if you need to fight the evils of Apologetics, that I can understand...

I took your request to mean exactly this as stated above.

Once again, I suggest you check out Asimov's book in the link I posted above.

Another source for some arguments against belief in God, more succinct, is Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian.

[oops. I goofed. It's Bertrand Russell. Thanks aherah. Fixed goof.]

I saw that amatuerscientist. I was just trying to get my point straight with everyone else who seemed to not be fully understanding.

And Dark Cobra. You are wrong. No offense. I believe what I do. But if I come across something that makes me beleive I might be wrong, I will look into it. But for now, I do have my beliefs, and I want to look into things to increase the knowledge I have for my beliefs.

I wasn't accusing you of anything... I just said it seems that way...

But yes, read up on this.

Oh I didn't really take it that way Dark Cobra. I was just letting you know. Sorry if it came across offensive.

Ah, now that I understand. In addition to the books I mentioned ( and I whole heartedly agree with the statements about Bertrand Russell and Azimov), I would add the following site which, althought it specifically is dealing with debating Jehovah's Witnesses the principles and suggestions are probably universal.

I hope you will give it a look.

There are no skeptic authors. There are only those who have not realized their erronious ways.

One day, after Jesus comes, we'll have a great harmonic convergence and there will be an increase on telepathy and prophecy. More people will speak to the dead and hear that their loved ones are safe and happy and love them. Surround your bed with sea salt to protect yourself from demons and chant your magic words to hasten this day.

Transcend mundanity - you'll like the view.
