Am I the only one who listens to the religious shows on the radio or TV just for the humor value?

No, and not just for humor value.

I used to listen, when I had more access to a lot of religious woo woo talk radio. I sorta miss it as I don't keep up with the latest take on centuries old conspiracy theories on the web.

I still watch D. James Kennedy and John Hagee - Fat Televangelist once in a while.

Nope, you're not alone.

I had one favorite radio show simply because of the name. I believe the host's name was Charlie Moore.

The name of the show: "Moore on Life"

Say it real fast. :D

It terrifies me to no end that i like a lot of christian rock, purely as music (as in, if I ignore the lyrics).

Kinda the same appreciation you might have for a good military march, or a videogame/movie soundtrack. Still makes me feel wierd... though there's a lot of music i love that everybody i know completely hates. :o

That's great, but it only equals Bob Larson's radio show.

"Bob Larson In Action."

Again, say it fast. ;)

No, I think we're up the same alley here. All the music you listed is emotional, sometimes triumphant music. I can't quite put a word on it, but I listen very much to game soundtracks and movie sountracks. The hair rises on the back of your neck in a way no other music does.

I watch Jack van Impe every now and then. I find it pretty funny how everything that happens in the world is in the bible and proves Jesus is on his way.

I saw him in the Detroit airport one time. He was doing that thing that celebrities do when they're trying to blend in and not get bothered - the sunglasses, the newspaper, the nervous glancing around.

What made it funny was the fact that there were hundreds of people around and I may have been the only one who recognized him - a fact of which I am not proud, FYI.

Oh, and if I may stoop to a rather low level, his wife's 80's porno hair is even bigger in real life than on TV.

Thats funny.
One of my friends family is really religious and one of his dads buddies actually spent his entire life savings, $250,000 or so, which was his retirement money, because Jack van Impe said the world would end and jesus would be here (or something like that). So he blew all his money and waited for the world to end. And this was around 1990. So maybe he is nervous about guys like that looking to rough him up.

And welcome to the forum.

Reverend Ernest Angley is my all time favorite, I like to watch the last bit of his show where he does the healings.

Here are a few choice quotes:

CAST OUT YE DEMONS AND BE HEALED!

Say BABY! Say JESUS! Say BABY! Say JESUS!

What's your problem pops?

religious tv

There is some weird guy with some sort of accent called Benny Hinn on channel three in the morinings before I pop in my work out tape. Sometimes I just get sucked in by the awfulness of it all. He is usually healing someone. This week he healed someone of arthritis and ovarian cancer! These people said he really cured them, and everyone was singing and the people always fall down and wiggle....

Then who is that woman who had Mary Kay explode on her face? She has BIG BIG BIG hair, and the eyeliner looks like it was put on with a Sharpie! My kids scream like it's the devil when she comes on. I keep joking I'm going to hire her to baby sit....

Benny Hinn is a personal hero of mine. Private jet, $4 million home...all for, essentially, nothing. The man's a genius. (Of course, if it turns out he really believes, and isn't just the scam artist I take him for, I lose all respect for the man.)

Also, I enjoy the Hammer religious show. I just wish he'd wear the pants.

My personal favorite is Dr. Gene Scott, a guy who manages to broadcast on local UHF and seemingly 24hrs a day via shortwave radio! He's quite unlike the typical show preacher in leisure suit and patent leather.

Instead, he usually seems to ramble on for hours, sitting in a chair with a scraggly beard and dark sunglasses with the camera filling the TV screen with his giant head. I find there's a somewhat hypnotic allure to his preaching (which sometimes sounds more like a demented old man spinning a yarn).

I'll tune into TBN every now and then and watch Hinn, Hagee, the pink-haired lady and the rest of the freakish menagerie.

I try to watch for the humor value, but if I watch too long I just end up getting seriously p*ssed off that these people are getting rich for what they do.

Any non-religious person watching a religious show regularly, is not a non-religious person.

Any non-religious person watching a religious show regularly, is not a non-religious person.
By the same "logic", any religious person reading randi.org regularly, is not a religious person.
:D

That woman who looks like an ageing hooker is Jan Crouch, the Vice-President of Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!

Such blithering idiots and cartoon harpies have been so ignored here in Oz that they are rarely on radio or television at all any more, mainstream or cable. Obviously we are harder to sell to!

We still have the "mainstream" preacher types roaming a TV stage on one (only one) lesser cable channel, but the screaming hairpieces come out only for a short time in the dead of Saturday nights, etc. Like vampires - how appropriate...

And can anyone tell me of that Tammy Bakker woman is still about? I mean, is her face always like that and is it really FOR REAL???

Every morning, before I have to go to work, I watch the early morning religous TV. Last week, two creationists were debating "Young Earth vs. Old Earth"... I almost threw the remote at the TV and screamed "How about No God!". I calmed down after I had myself a poptart.
