Too little room to explain
Despite some of my past postings, I bear a certain grudging respect for many varieties of religious believers. Other varieties, however, are beyond hope.

Case in point. This is how religion twists its believers into incomprehensible cruelty. From this morning’s NPR...

In Texas, where dogfighting is a felony, stiffer prison sentences have triggered controversy. In the spring, Congress debated new federal legislation banning interstate trafficking of fighting dogs and roosters; of the 32 representatives who voted against the bill, 11 were from Texas.

Most of the bill's opponents say they aren't fans of dogfighting but are conservative, pro-life Republicans. Iowa Rep. Steve King from Iowa says it's wrong for the federal government criminalize pit bull trafficking while allowing legal abortion.

"My vote says that human life needs to be elevated and stay above animal life. And I think it devalues all human life, when you set the life of an animal up above that of a human," King says.

In other words, until abortion is illegal I’m fine with letting animals suffer a tortuous and obscenely cruel existence, even though I could do something about it.

Go Jesus.

Abortion=Murder which is the worst crime. While abortion is legal all lesser crimes should lesser penalties. If abortion carries no penalties then other crimes should come with rewards. A reward scheme should be set up for people who are prepared to carry out lesser crimes.

Go King.

"Abortion=Murder "? Why?

Because some people don't understand the definition of the word murder?

I listened to some talk radio the day after the September 11th terrorist attacks, and someone called in and said, "I can't see why we're discussing this when babies are killed every day."

These people are crazy all around.

The representative's view on life seems very quantity>quality. Let children be born to live in rotten situations, let innocent animals be treated cruely, let the adults doing it lose their respect for the lives of other creatures, THAT'S all good... :gasp:

I assume you're kidding, no? Actually, it's pretty funny.

In any event, if it's "wrong for the federal government criminalize pit bull trafficking while allowing legal abortion," shouldn't it be wrong to criminalize child molestation, or anything less than murder? After all, wouldn't doing so be putting mere bodily (and psychological) harm above life itself?

Really, I can't understand the logic, much less the complete lack of empathy here. Was it their fundamentalism that shrunk these people's hearts into nasty little turds of ice, or something else? (Like being from Iowa... or Texas. :duck:)

When people say "abortion is murder" they're not helping their case, they're just trivializing murder.

So. . we should legalize rape? We should reward batterers?

Yeah, be rewarded for every crime except Abortion or Murder.
