Oh great. The gymn in our office building is now offering the chance to lie down and have someone wave their hands over you... I mean Reiki sessions.

From their info:
Reiki is a form of holistic energy healing, which simultaneously re-balances the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels of the mind and body.

Sometimes the flow of energy through the body can get disrupted for whatever reason such as illness, stress, worries etc leaving us feeling drained, tired, exhausted etc. Reiki is a wonderful way of recharging our energy levels to restore harmony and balance in the body.

During a Reiki healing appointment you remain fully clothed and lie down on the treatment couch. You are not required to do anything, but during this time hands will be placed on or above the body. You may feel sensations such as hot or tingling and the experience is different for each person.

Some conditions that Reiki has been reported to help with are: reduction of pain, such as headaches, eyestrain from overworking such as at the computer, menstrual pains, stress, anxiety, depression. So wherever in the body there is an imbalance Reiki will rebalance.

Cost: 20 - 35 pounds.

There are some things I really can't understand how people fall for.
Anything that involves 'energy' (without them understanding the word at all) and waving hands about in a mystical way is definitely at the top of the list.

And as far as I was aware, lying down quietly away from the office for an hour actually is pretty good for eyestrain, stress and anxiety all by itself. (I can't comment on menstrual pains.)

Can't you persuade them to get something a bit more "hands on" like conventional massage?
That might be worth paying for, depending on who administers it...:)

They already offer:
a variety of treatments including physiotherapy, nail therapy, aromatherapy, chair massage, indian head massage and deep tissue / body massage.

Physiotherapy and nail therapy, together at last.

How do those physiotherapists look at the other 'therapists' without losing their temper and snapping them in half like twigs?

From the material Ashles posted.

You may feel sensations such as hot or tingling and the experience is different for each person.

What a delightful way of saying "whatever you feel, you can be sure Reiki is working. Even if you feel nothing!"

Some people are so good at marketing cr@p.

One of the eternal mysteries of the world. Mind you, keep an eye on those physios; if they start looking a little thin then they're probably losing their lunch everytime they look at the other clowns. It's the very least I'd expect.

My chair is feeling a little uncomfortable. How much would it cost to get it massaged?
Maybe its red aura is telling us it's constipated?

(Boy, do I wish I remembered where I got that joke from.)

... nail therapy...
How many of these things do they hammer into one's head for this one? And should they be galvanised, japanned or self-coloured? Oval, round, or disappearing head? Smooth or annular ring shank?

There are just too many choices for the uninformed patient to make alone.

A satisfied customer. Look how relaxed he seems:

You guys really hammer away at a joke, don't you? I never saw such a thing. Do you want to make your reader's board?

Fair point. You hit that on the head.

I like my massages with a happy ending...

This actually sounds pretty good, and nothing like what they offer at my work:(

Make all the nail jokes you want... sounds like what's really happening is that they're getting screwed.

This thread certainly got punderful over the weekend. I'll stop needling you for it, though.

Hmm. Hardware puns just bad enough to make someone want to bolt.
