Rape: A War Crime Under Islamic Law?

The idea said:

Please post a summary in your own words unless you are our designated Googler in which case please accept my insomniac apologies.

You're too lazy to? Or was your post a rhetorical question?

The short answer is yes, but Islamic law is so bass ackwards, it's usually the raped that is punished.

Thank Jefferson in the West, we use DNA testing.

Until the last hundred years or so, rape has been a reward for soldiers (often unofficial) in most cultures around the world. The old testament is at best ambivalent about it, and certainly seems to support it in places.

Even in modern times rape is commonly seen as a fair reward for conquering soldiers in many places, certainly including large parts of christian Africa. British soldiers have recently been accused of raping local Somali (I think) women over a couple of decades, though the accusation is denied.

Not sure why islam would be singled out for criticism on this one.

The accusations against the British Army that I heard about were in Kenya near a training ground. We've also left a load of unexploded shells lying around.

Perhaps it's because the prophet Mohammed himself approved of taking women captured in war for sex. He took one himself named Safiyah.

It's not easy to criminalize the same behavior your prophet is reputed to have done.

Indeed. I'm not for a moment saying that Islam is any better than the other religions; merely pointing out that the same can be said for Judaism and Christianity.

Numbers 31:14-18
And Moshe (Moses) was furious with the commanders of the military...Moshe said to them : You have left alive all the females!...So now, kill every male among the little-ones, and every woman who has known a man by lying with a male, kill (as well)! But all the younger-ones among the women who have not known lying with a male - you may keep them alive for yourselves
There are no shortage of other examples; this is not an isolated incident from the Bible.
