R. Lee Ermey RIP

You could be *********** some guy up the ass and wouldn't even have the courtesy of giving him a reach-around.

He had such a way of saying things in a way that you can understand

I recorded a lot of snippets from his interstitials from Mail Call (series). Unfortunately I lost most of them in a computer crash.

One I remember best --
"PUT DOWN THAT SANDWICH, LARDASS!! IT'S TIME FOR MAIL CALL!!"
(and an out-take)
"Heh-heh. 'Lardass...'"

Semper Fi, Gunny.

He was on the board of the NRA and a spokesman for Glock. He loved Trump and guns and wanted no gun control.

"Gun Control is NOT the answer, the answer is CONTROL the MENTALLY UNBALANCED NUMBNUTS. Never in history has a gun loaded itself!"

"Well, I know Donny Trump. He’s on my shooting team ... This guy’s a ‘dinger.’ He can lay on the 600-yard line and never miss the black. I’m thinking if Donny Trump shoots that well...then dad must be a shooter, too. I do know that if Trump gets to be our president, our commander in chief, I know one thing—our Second Amendment rights are solid as a rock.”

Down with gays and liberals too. Down. Down.

He was doing some Geico commercials but they fired him because he said that the Obama administration was ruining the economy and driving people to bankruptcy so that they could impose socialism on America.

C'mon man.
It's like your grandpa.
Yeah he's old and crazy, but you still love the guy.

Well shucks!

R. Lee Emery sure had a good run. A former Marine who became a rather well respected actor much later in life by essentially being himself.

He was always good in all of the various movies and all of the TV shows that I ever saw him in, and I will miss his work.

Well Ted Nugent will now have a bigger voice in the direction of the NRA after losing other board members like this.

'And the way I see it, you owe me for one Jelly Donut".....

Ermey was originally hired by Stanley Kurbick just to be a technical adviser for "Full Metal Jacket', and, among his other duties, to train the actors for the boot camp scenes. BUt when Kubrick saw Ermey in action chewing out the actors, he decided to pay off the actor he had hired for the Drill instructor roll, and cast Ermey instead. He knew nobody could do a DI as well as Ermey could.
ANohter bit I liked was he was the voice of the Plastic Green S0ldiers in the "Toy Story" movies.
And then was the Ghost DI in Peter Jackson's "The Frightners".

The Marine corps tweeted out a photo of him as the character from full metal jacket. They are being properly mocked. This is a really bad time to lionize a character whose behaviour as a drill instructor drives a recruit to suicide.

His first role was as a Drill Instructor in "The Boys in Company C", which came out shortly after I completed Boot Camp. I knew he was the real thing.

Hell, he wasn't even a real Gunny (E-7), getting no farther during his service than Staff Sergeant (E-6). Even I got that far, albeit in the Army. The Marines only made him an "honorary gunny" because he got famous and they liked the publicity.

I never had any respect for the real DI's I met, either. Most of them probably became cops after getting out so they could keep throwing their (usually excessive) weight around.
